Since no one else claimed the honor of FBB we'll have to settle for this tufted titmouse. I put out my hummingbird feeder today. They usually don't arrive til mid-April but maybe they'll come early along with everything else this year.

The old Hwy 70 iron bridge
The old Hwy 70 iron bridge over the Clinch River part of Watts Barr Lake at Kingston had an osprey nest in the rafters. When the bridge was torn down a new platform was put up just on the upstream side. The birds finally decided to use the platform and you can actualy see into the nest from the bridge.
I wonder what the osprey nest count is this year? The one at the Roane County high football field has been torn off the lights twice already and fake owls mounted. They may have started using the platform near the school but it was definitely their second choice.
osprey
If you happen to drive over the Loudoun Dam Bridge look at the big light pole on the south ( lower ) side near the locks. Twice in the past week as I crossed the bridge I have seen a pair of osprey landing there. Could be a new nest.
Then look to the upper side of the dam on the long row of light poles to see if the cormorants are back. In the spring they line up, perfectly spaced, four to a pole. Rather cool and far better to view from the passenger seat than while driving.
Nice photo R.Neal, thanks!
About birds
During my pre-work morning dog walk through the woods, my Border Collie interrupted an Owl killing a rabbit. The Owl flew into a tree while the rabbit flopped around trying to run with a broken back. I had to pull my dog away so the Owl would come back and finish off the poor bunny. I had seen the Owl yesterday and the rabbit a few days ago. I figured what would happen. I live on the edge of one of the Chattahoochee River national forests and so see lots of Hawks and some Owls. The squirrel population stays low. That is the only rabbit I have seen and I won't be seeing him again.
I would try to get a picture of the Owl, but I only see him/her before sunrise.
