Pet food recall update

Submitted by R. Neal on Mon, 2007/03/19 - 1:03pm.

We're seeing hundreds of Google hits from people looking for info on the recent pet food recall brought to our attention by CL in an earlier post.

Here are links to the manufacturer's website and lists of the brands involved:

Cat food

Dog food

An overview of the manufacturer's links to more info can be found here.

For the Iams/Eukanuba brands affected, the manufacturer refers you to their respective websites.

The Iams website appears to be down at the moment, but here's the Eukanuba notice. The recall affects only canned and foil pouch "wet" pet foods. Dry foods are not affected, according to Eukanuba.

Alternatives to Corporate Pet Food

Try Flint River Ranch

My mom is an authorized reseller. Her number is 120617. Prices are comparable to Iams and Eukanuba. The customer service is great and delivery is free. They are based out of Alpharetta, but have fulfillment centers all over the place so shipping takes about 2 days after order.

Interesting, isn't it, that

Interesting, isn't it, that the maker of such supposedly premium labels also puts out a slew of store brands.

My goodness, this is all so

My goodness, this is all so much to take in. I've only heard this in the last couple of days. Thanks for posting up the list.

Pet Food Recall - we should not be surprized!

Commercial pet foods are made from all the toxic junk that gets left behind from human food manufacturing processes. After our beloved boy cat had to endure a horrible operation and months of bladder problems, we did a ton of research to understan how he got there. He is a happy healthy 11 year old cat now, but what we learned then changed us for ever. Most of these brands are owned by major food companies for a reason - so nothing is wasted, and pet food is the last stop. I am shocked that it took so long for a crisis to to happen. If you care about your pet - PLEASE GO HERE, as an example, and educate yourself. Link... . Even some of the "best" brands are guilty - for the sake of your beloved pets, please stay away from commercial pet foods. They do a ton of damage over time too, when we think we are taking care of our furry children. Please pass it along!

So, what do you suggest, vreston?

Do you have recommendations on what to feed our pets? That article just says that most commercial foods are bad. What is your recommendation for feeding? Human foods are overprocessed and full of chemicals too.

Al Qaida Dog Food

It's the terrorists. They're at it again, and now they're determined to convert America's cats and dogs to Islam.

My dogs got sick

I switched to Iams about a month ago temporarily because I was having trouble getting my normal brand and I needed something until I found out what I wanted to start feeding them permanently. Sure enough, I was feeding them the recalled food. My Border Collie mix got sick and vomited many times. I thought my little dog, a Dandy Dinmont Terrier mix, was going to have serious issues. She did not eat much of the food the last few times I feed them, but she went into seclusion and would not come out. Her stomach stayed tense for days. She would shiver if anybody got near her. The only time she would get near me was when I slept at night. Finally she has come out of it and seems to be back to normal. I thought I might lose her. From the research I did everything depended on whether or not she got kidney damage or not. The damage cannot be healed. Luckily it seems she did not have any. We hiked two miles and she was fine.

So glad your pups survived.

So glad your pups survived.

I cannot even imagine how I would feel (what I would do) if my pupster was damaged by bad dog food. We have fed her Eukanuba dry food (lamb and rice) all of her 10 years and she has been quite healthy, except for a bad back. I would have great trouble choosing a different food for her if we had to change.

I would also like to know

I would also like to know about alternatives. We feed our three dogs Purina One, Lamb and Rice.

Try the link I put above. It

will check it out

I use the Purina Pro Choice, which is a premium food, and it is about $25 for 20 pounds. Checking again, that is about the same price as the Flint River. I may get a small bag and see if they will eat it, though. Does it come in a small kibble? I have a 12 pounder and a 50 pounder. They both like the tiny kibble.

It isn't chunks. Call them

It isn't chunks. Call them up. They are great. We feed the fishnchips. She is very finicky and gobbles this stuff up. All of the ingredients are listed in big type on the bag. They stand by their stuff!
