Is it just me, or does it look like Michael Silence is trying out for a spot in Fred Thompson's administration as press secretary?
I count sixteen consecutive posts about Fred Thompson. (One is ostensibly about Ann Coulter, but it mentions Fred Thompson, too!)
Anyway, Michael wonders why the lefty blogs aren't talking about Fred Thompson! Fred Thompson! Fred Thompson!
Well, there you go. Happy now?

wrong again Michael
Knoxviews was ahead of the GOP's mighty wurlitzer on this one. Posted about Fred on March 7, as I recall. That is Fred Thompson, defender of convicted felons. Fred Thompson loves felons. Fred Thompson loves felons.
So much for law and order. heh.
I dunno, I think this lefty
I dunno, I think this lefty blog's take on Thompson is pretty accurate...

Republican family values
One thing that's interesting to me about these GOP candidates is that except for the Mormon guy, the front-runners are a bunch of horndogs who have traded their first (and in the case of Gingrich and Guiliani, their second) wives for newer models.
Fred's womanizing was absolutely notorious during his first campaign. Lots of his supporters lived in fear of bimbo eruptions. And his current view on abortions may well come back to haunt him.
I never quite understood the appeal myself.
Mo' Fred

OMG! That's about the funniest stream of consciousness rant I've read in a while. Too good to excerpt. Read the whole thing. Thanks, Beanster.
shiny, happy invaders
With so much to not talk about, Republicans are desperate for topics to occupy their sunny, optimistic minds.
If you were a Republican, what would you rather talk about:
The military dead or Fred?
Wounded soldiers in roach-infested hospitals or Fred?
Soldiers scapegoated for torture so their trainers and commanders can escape investigation or Fred?
A White House run like a marketing firm for military contractors or Fred?
The Congressional Republican jetsam in Abramoff's wake or Fred?
Katrina recovery or Fred?
Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred, Fred!
Party pooper. I thought
Party pooper.
I thought Fred was excellent in Hunt for Red October. He helped save us from the Soviet silent-submarine-o-nuclear-death!
Michael's wife is a GOP
Michael's wife is a GOP political operative and was pretty close to ole Fred, as I recall.
Yeah, that's how they met.

freepers not happy with Thompson
Michael may be concerned that the left is not yapping much about Thompson. That's because the freepers are doing it for us.
OK, that makes it a little
OK, that makes it a little better. Good that he made that clear up front. Does this mean that his wife will be employed in the campaign?
And I confess to not being a religious reader of Silence's blog -- or being much of a Phred Phan. And speaking of religion, I've watched him morph from a moderate (to liberal, even) Republican into a card-carrying rightwinger over the years since he used to run with the editor of the Knoxville Journal. I spent a week in DC in the mid-nineties doing a story on him for MP, and was struck by how much he'd changed.*
*On edit, I'm talking Fred here, not Michael.
code of ethics
In Michael's "personal note" he divulges clearly who he'd vote for...should Thompson choose to run.
Should a journalist/blogger be shilling so obviously, so breathlessly, for a possible candidate under the newspaper's web site umbrella?
From the SPJ code of ethics:
In Michael's own breathless words, "Now back to the Fred Watch!"
I don't see him blogging as vigorously on the "Gore Watch," do you?
hmmm, indeed.
If we're going with people
If we're going with people who aren't really presidents but who play one on tv...I'm for Martin Sheen.
Look, people...Actors pretend for a living. That's a useful trait for a politician but not a good thing for the Country. Can we try to get somebody real this time?
Just hopin'
Peace
Thompson
If Silence's wife is an operative they should make him write about sports like when Eric Vreeland had to because his wife was working for Madeline. On Thompson, I saw him on a Roseanne re-run recently where he played a horn-dog asshole. He would fit right in to their slate of candidates but he would unfortunately probably do well in the South and give the Sentinel someone to rally around. Stacey
Michael Silence in business section
Maybe that's why Michael Silence is in the business section now?
Not sure how the blog plays in. They must consider that separate and personal or something. And it's not like he's "advocating", just "linking". Wink wink.
Anyway, he's just having some fun with "All Fred All the Time". It's turned in to a running joke, and getting his blog some traffic.
blogs are "activities"
I'd lump blogging in the category of "activities" in relation to the SPJ code of ethics.
And while I'm sure it's all fun and all, I resent a newspaper blog shilling for a possible candidate.
Looks like a double standard to me. They got rid of Don Williams because he wouldn't write his column on the right local topics, but a business writer can blog on newspaper time about politics when his wife has worked for the politician in question?
Hmmm. Well, when you put it
Hmmm. Well, when you put it that way...
Fred headed to Iraq.
I suspect Fred's going to take on some role as an ambassador to Iraq, given that coalition forces are now engaged in Operation: Fardh al-Qanoon.
(For those of you playing at home, that's Operation: Law and Order. Chung chung.)

What's that quote??
It's all about sincerity. Once you learn to fake that you are good to go.
Fred Thompson is really good at faking sincerity. The paternal visage, the serious voice, the meaty and current acting roles all point to what a sincere guy he is, just like he wants them to. If you are easy and not so bright, you'll fall for it again. I will personally view whatever he does or says like that big red pickup truck he used as a campaign prop when running for the senate. Someone else had to drive the thing around and back it up or park it for him. He just used it to help him fake sincerity.

Perfect Republican
Fred has proven Hollywood gravitas, and he can read a line. After Duhbya, the party elders will be looking for a new Reagan-style figurehead. Mortimer will be ponying up his dollar and admitting that scraping the bottom of the barrel for Duhbya went further than even the sleeping America voter could stand.
Anyway, Fred has a helluva lot better chance than "frontrunner" Rudy. If Rudy wins anything Republican other than RNC 2008 Most Likely to Wear a Dress, it will prove that they really can fix any election and they threw 2006 just to throw us off the scent.
Liberty and justice for all.
