Which of the following singers would have made it to the American Idol finals?

John Lennon, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Leon Russell, Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Grace Slick, Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Tom Petty, Wilson Pickett, Chrissie Hynde, Lucinda Williams, Johnny Cash, Bonnie Raitt, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, David Bowie, Paul Simon, Michael Bolton...

OK, maybe Michael Bolton.

Mark it down: I predict Lakisha Jones will win it, because I still believe in talent and stuff. Which means she probably won't make the final cut.

Doolittle

Ms. Doolittle should win if not Ms Jones. Then again we are done watching since that remake of the 70's teen idol Sajid Kahn stayed in there and Sundance got das boot.

How very sad that I know who Sajid Kahn is.

I've never watched American

I've never watched American Idol, but I think I know what you're getting at. Chrissie Hynde has a really strong, powerful voice in addition having style and being able to, you know, write stuff for talentless schmucks to sing in front of judges. So she's my choice from your list. She can coo and wail with the best of those pretenders.

Of course, Bowie has the showmanship to win probably any talent contest he might enter.

I've never watched it either

I've never watched it either and I always mute the TV when the local Fox affiliate recaps part of the show on the evening news as though it were a news item.

Me fifteen!!

I have never watched AI either however, I would think that even in today's idiot laden environment, Wicked Wilson Pickett would be able to get a vote or ten.

Nah, he'd be "over the top"

Nah, he'd be "over the top" and his "song selection" would be questionable.

Definitely over the top.

Definitely over the top. Now, if I could only figure out what Simon means by song selection being "indulgent".
