It makes no apparent sense that the Vols are not one of the top 30 teams... in this week’s coach’s pole, except that coaches simply don’t like Bruce Pearl. Currently, you can find the Vols at #6 in the RPI poll, which is what the NCAA selection committee uses most in determining seeds for the Big Dance, and #21 in the Associated Press pole. They are 21-6 when Chris Lofton is on the court and could have very easily been 23-4 had the ball bounced our way in a couple games. Say what you will about Coach Pearl’s antics, (Ripping off shirt and flexing during post game locker room celebrations, painting himself orange in the student section, NARCing out schools that blatantly practiced recruiting violations) but this team deserves credit. Here’s to drawing a team where the coach participates in their official poll come march madness time.

Blackballed?

I don't care if we are rated or not. We can do it on the floor.

Basketball polls mean very

Basketball polls mean very little. Football polls do because they result in bowls, BCS, etc. In basketball, it's RPI baby...and that committee don't need no stinkin' polls. Men Vols have RPI and SOS in top 10 in the nation.

They don't get extra credit

They don't get extra credit for Lofton being out.

They were a No. 2 seed that didn't really deserve it last year.

I wouldn't worry too much about anti-Pearl bias affecting the Vols' seeding.

If the coaches' poll is the worst of it . . .

then there's not too much damage done.

Pearl Blackballed?

Coach Pearl has brought more enthusiasm to UT Basketball since the Ernie and Bernie days. Get the h off his back and let him coach. He's great!

Coming to a coliseum near you! It's the curse of the Blackballed Pearl and the Pirates of the NCAA Tourney.
Cast: Crusin Cruze, Three Point Chris, JaJaun A Treasure, Rimmer Ramar, Dead I Howell, Wide open Tabb, Got Game Dane, Cataclysm Chism, and last but not least, I'm not buyin Ryan.

I have too much time on my hands!

Pearl and the Volunteers

Pearl and the Volunteers open their SEC Tourney play in about 30 minutes. I think they have a good shot at winning the tournament this year.

Best of luck to the team.

If you didn't stay up to catch the game, it was a good close game that even went into overtime. It just seemed LSU wanted the game worse than Tennessee at the end.

But, we still have the NCAA!

Losing to a 16-14 bubble team (and when I say bubble, their prospects for the NIT might even be pretty dark) that's lost 9 of its last 10 games isn't a good sign.

The KNS has an exciting play by play account of the game, but here's the best play:

Pearl said he started junior Jordan Howell in place of freshman Ramar Smith because Smith missed curfew Wednesday night.

Maybe some of Pat Head's work ethic is taking root. Maybe it will even spread to Neyland Stadium.

Truth of the matter is, LSU

Truth of the matter is, LSU is fighting for their NCAA life. The only way they make the tournament now is to win out in the SEC.

Pearl said he started junior Jordan Howell in place of freshman Ramar Smith because Smith missed curfew Wednesday night.

And honestly, Tennessee's berth in the tournament isn't in question. They've sewn up an at-large bid (my guess would be a 5 seed) based on their regular season performance, so Pearl can afford to bench a starter.

I had mixed feelings about playing 4 games in as many days, but I was hoping we could at least win our first round game. The officiating was pathetic on both sides, but Coach Brady is a bitch and should have been T'd up a number of times last night. I see us slipping all the way down to a 6 seed, unless the bayou bengals run the table. Let's hope we don't run into a team with height and strength.

KQ, The selection committee

KQ,

The selection committee doesn't give a lot of weight to what happens in conference tournaments (other than those who win them, of course). An OT loss on a neutral floor typically won't kill them seed-wise. Their first-round loss to the Gamecocks last year didn't knock them from the #2 seed.

Indeed. I just hope we don't land the #4, it seems that seed almost always gets knocked out the first day. I can't believe what a difference the cavernous Tommy Bowl makes. I wonder if there is any chance of holding an early season game at Stokley Athletic. That would be electric.

Statistically, the #5-#12 are where the most big Round 1 upsets lie. You'd much rather be a 4 than a 5. Trust me.

I'm just hoping my Jayhawks don't repeat their mistakes of the last two years.

Bradley? BUCKNELL? Jeez.

I don't have access to a TV right now, but I'm "watching" them (on Yahoo's live scoreboard) doing a workmanlike job on the Sooners in the Big XII as we type. (21 point lead with 6:59. NOT ENOUGH! RUN UP THE SCORE!!!)

I felt LSU could be a tough one going into the game. Big Baby has been a pretty much no show this season but I was afraid that he was due a good game, and he had one. He came out of his shell in the second half and was the difference in the game.
