A Downy Woodpecker (we think). This looks like the female. There's a male, too, but I don't have a good photo of him. We finally got them to come around to the suet. We had to keep scaring off the starlings, and the woodpeckers figured out they could come by around 4:30 and not get hassled. The suet is all gone now, I need to go get some more before they forget it was here.

I got a very similar shot

I got a very similar shot yesterday and thought about posting it if no one else claimed the FBB slot. The peckers really like the peanut butter based suet.

Dang, we should have gone

Dang, we should have gone with your shot! And yes, the peanut butter based suet (with peanuts) seemed to be the trick. (Hope it wasn't from a recent batch of Peter Pan peanut butter.)

Any one seeing many robins?

Any one seeing many robins? By the end of March they are normally back this so far I have only seen a couple this year.

Manteca (lard)

I get covered up with woodpeckers when I put out the suet. I make my own with lard, flour, and corn meal. Really easy and really cheap. You would not believe how clean the birds can make my suet feeder, a piece of dogwood with a hook in one end and some holes drilled in it. Not storebought but effective.

If we don't keep the suet

If we don't keep the suet feeder filled one of the woodpeckers comes and pecks on our gutters. No joke. We couldn't figure out what the noise was the first few times.

The robins are still haging

The robins are still haging in the deep south. I live in Louisiana 30 miles from the Gulf and still have bunches in my yard. They usually are gone by now. Peeving my cardinals off greatly.

I've seen quite a few robins

I've seen quite a few robins in the Sequoyah Hills area as of late.

Robins

Plenty of robins have been seen in Chattanooga, last coupla weeks. I do need to get some suet for my feeders. We have flickers, downys, and I've seen a yellow-bellied sapsucker once or twice.

My thrill is the pair of red-tail hawks. We live in the city, so this is a treat for us.

Farm raised bud of mine said they know not to come north until the winter is passed, if that is the case then I guess March has some teeth left.

My doc told me she saw a Bald Eagle along Pell Parkway trying to lift a dead cat. Her nurse backed it up saying she had seen a couple deep west near the lake. Very cool!
