Johnny liked pie

32 years ago, when I was 17, Johnny and Woody sat down to my momma's kitchen table to sample some of a coupla fresh strawberry pies she had worked on all morning. Momma twittered and blushed to Johnny's compliments (the charmer), and offered him a second slice. It didn't take him long, then, to polish off the whole pie.

What still puts a smile on my face, though, is that he managed to walk out with *all* of the second pie, too!

RIP, Johnny.

Roots of NASCAR

I used to be a big NASCAR fan but lost interest the last few years. I'm moving to Maryville this summer and decided to get back into it again. Stories like this remind me why I loved the sport in the first place: Moonshiners and race car drivers.

These are some my daughter, Rachael, put up on Flickr this morning. There are some of Ed Harvey at Eddie's Auto parts and an old shot of Rachael as a small child with her Uncle John in my mamma's kitchen. This picture always makes me tear up, even after all these years.
