P.S. A lot of agencies are starting to use Pointsec and similar encryption products to encrypt the file at the boot level. There are lots of hard drives and laptops getting lost.

I re-loaded the

I re-loaded the complimentary McAfee Security Center from Comcast the other day and a bit of noodling around revealed a "shredder" option for deleting files (or even a whole disc). They offer up to 10 passes through the so-called shredder. I haven't played with it, felt the need for it, or had the tools to test its effectiveness, but it looks like a nice bell or whistle.

I read some forensic tech

I read some forensic tech guy somewhere saying the only sure method is a blowtorch.

We drill our old/failed hard-drives with a power drill before discarding them.
