Public Forum for Candidates

Submitted by Mark Harmon on Tue, 2007/01/23 - 1:33pm.

I have arranged a candidate forum for those who seek appointments to vacant positions in Knox County, especially the commission seat in District Two. Commissioner Billy Tindell is cooperating in this and plans to attend. The event is set for Monday, January 29th, starting at 6pm in the Fulton High School Auditorium. Public, candidates, commissioners, and all interested parties are invited.

The schedule will work as follows:
6 pm Brief Welcome and Introduction
6:05 to approximately 6:50pm, Brief statements by those seeking appointment to the District Two Commission seat (3-4 minutes each) followed by questions from the audience.

6:50 to approx. 7:30, Brief statements by those seeking appointment to any of the countywide offices (sheriff, register of deeds, trustee, county clerk) followed by questions from the audience.

7:30 to close, Brief statements by those seeking other commission seats followed by questions from the audience.

I hope to wrap up by about 8pm; it could go longer or shorter based on the number of candidates who show up, and the number of questions.

Snowball in hell?

Mark,

We all appreciate you stopping by from time to time. What are the chances of convincing your fellow commissioners to join us here at Knoxviews and hammer out some of these issues?

:)

Much Appreciated

Commissioner Harmon,

Thank you for doing this and for making your comments at the tragi-comic County Commission meeting yesterday about the need for public input and participation.

You, Larry Smith, Mike Hammond, John Greiss, Tony Norman and I believe John Schmid made very good comments about the need for public input, and they are very much appreciated.

Scott Moore came across as almost buffoon-like, highly unprofessional, fumbled around, didn't know the rules. He used his position as Chairman several times to state his own opinion and preferences at inappropriate times and on subjects unrelated to the vote at hand. It was clear that he had an agenda.

It would be comical if it wasn't so sad.

dog days

Now, now, commission makes appointments all the time. What's the big deal? This is no different than appointing a new dog catcher. If they allow public input on these appointments, it won't be long before dogs are demanding time at the podium during meetings. It's pretty obvious that's what this KnoxViews crowd is really after, turning the serious business of county government into some sort of please-adopt-me-or-I'll-die slobberfest.

Remember until 2008

After the commission makes its good ole boy network appointments on 1-31, we have got to remember that in 2008 that the will of the people was ignored in these appointments. We have to keep this snub in front of the voters and keep reminding each other how we were scr---- again by the commissioners. WE VOTED THEM OUT BY TERM LIMITS, AND WE WILL VOTE THESE APPOINTMENTS OUT IN 2008. MAYBE WE CAN GET THEM ALLLLLLLLLLLL.

Mark, Thanks for posting

Mark,

Thanks for posting here and for holding this forum. Can you help us get 8 more? :)
