Ahhhh, I just listened to the President..he's out there, it's time to make or break, putting his (and our) credibility on the line. Do we leave the fragile Iraqi nation to crumble (like we did in Vietnam), and invite even more killings if the sectarian violence gets waay out of hand, or an extremist Islamic nation forms, with the worst of the Islamic Ideology allowed to frement? A new Kymer Rouge? Or do we try to prop up with a surge the nascent government, and while doing so, try to stand behind our country's ideology, which is supposedly superior to that of the Extremist Islamicists?

My wife tells me, "I'm ready for the troops to come home." Yes, we all are. Is it time to forget everything we've done in the past years of war, and pull out? Or do we give it one more surge, to try to right the ship?

I guess I will have to stand with the President on this one. One more try, to be on the ideological side that feels morally correct. I don't mind being in the minority of supporters of the President. I've always felt that I'll stick with my friends, have their backs through thick and thin, and not cut out if the going gets rough. That's why the President wants to succeed in helping the Iraqis generate a democracy, and that's why I will have to stand with him.

What a shocker.

Which one *don't* you stand with Bush on?

Brian A.'s picture

Does your having Bush's back when things get "rough" . . .

involve making a personal sacrifice in Iraq?

Sounds like empty rhetoric to me.

My suggestion to those folks

My suggestion to those folks who are going to "stand with the president on this one":

You should also go ahead and answer those emails from Mariam (if you haven't already) so you can collect all those millions in Nigerian money. You have a real knack for picking a winner.

Agreed. We can't just cut

Agreed. We can't just cut and run, and leave all those Iraqis to fend for themselves against Syria and Iran. Those people are counting on us to help them help themselves. We're getting there, more so by far than the anti-Bush media lets on. Sure, there were lots of screw ups in not knowing and preparing ahead of time for the influx of terrorists. Major let down there. We've been too concerned with fighting a "PC" war, being far too delicate. We could take some lessons from the Ethiopians - now those boys not only know how to kick some jihadi ass, but they have commanders who let them and a country that stands behind them. And those were the same poor starving kids we collected pennies for in school so they could eat. It's time we let our military do their job and quit worrying about hearts and minds. That crap just gets more of them killed.

Donald Rumsfeld, king of political correctness

Is there no talking point too bafflingly stupid and hypocritical for dead-enders to parrot? What the fuck is "a PC war"? Whose politics have been in control of how this war has been fought? Who has been deciding what is correct?

Ethiopia? Sweet Jesus.

Dear Serr8d

Do you have any loved ones involved in this war? I don't mean relatives with Halliburton stock.

Where are the Bush twins, the children of repubs who support this debacle?

Have you been listening to what is going on in Iraq? Do you realize the "surge" is to protect the oil companies and their 75% of profits. Bush is desperate and he is condemning thousands of innocents to their deaths for his pride and pocket.

Be a blessing to someone today.

A buddy's son got stop

A buddy's son got stop lossed a few months ago. He had 20 years and was getting out. They told him to re-up for a cash bonus or get stop lossed for free. He said the money was good until you realize people are shooting at you. However, he had no choice. He has one tour in Iraq and is on his 3rd in Afghanistan. He is special ops. They will never let him out, other than in a box.

Clap louder and everything will work out? Not likely. This is a no win situation. Study history. Even George Washington new an occupying force from another country could never win a war, which is why he did not fight the British for a win. He knew he did not have to win because the British could only lose. What a shame the GOP won't study history. Vietnam is not the only example. They all have the same result. Home team wins.

Or do we give it one more surge, to try to right the ship?

(Emphasis added.) It's funny how even W's most ardent supporters use terms like these. William Kristol was on TDS recently and every single time he referred to the "surge," he spoke of it as "taking one more shot."

As much as these guys claim how imperative victory in Iraq is (whatever victory means), it's clear they don't even believe themselves that there's really much of a chance. Yet they're eager to throw more American lives toward this weak gamble while they stay cozily at home. Why do they put such a low value on our troops?

And does anyone believe this is really their final call to follow Bush's war escalations?

Bbeanster's picture

SURGE!!! Reminds me of the hyper-caffeinated softdrink--

Of a few years back.
Funniest thing I ever saw while on the job was when I had to cover one of those DARE (Drug Resistance Education) rallies over at the late Bill Meyer Stadium. Surge was one of the co-sponsors, and the thing was attended by all these hopped-up kids screaming at the tops of their ragged little lungs. Crrr-azzy!!!!!

But not as crazy as Bush. Who TF is he listening to?

Do we leave the fragile

Do we leave the fragile Iraqi nation to crumble

I suppose we do bear some responsibility to stabilize Irag, since WE created the problem in the first place.

talidapali's picture

Actually...

I feel NO responsibility whatsoever to fix this mess...this mess was perpetrated upon the Iraqi people and the American people by the Bush administration and the complicit Republican-lead Congress. I personally think all those folks who voted in favor of giving Bush the power to use force to go into Iraq and Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice, Powell, and every other member of Bush's Administration and ALL THEIR family members should have to PERSONALLY go over and FIX their own mess.

I don't think one more member of our armed forces should have to die on foreign soil to prosecute an illegal war for a bunch of draft-dodging, rich playboys and their progeny. Let those fat, old, rich men and women take care of their own business by themselves for once instead of having the general American public pay the price in blood and money.

One thing I do think would help...raise the minimum age for joining the armed forces so all you guys who say you would go except you are too old to join up now can do just that...put your ass where your mouth is. Time for you to cash the checks your mouth has been writing (or keyboarding skills as the case may be).

Bush for Prez (of Iraq)

I've said this before, but here it is again.

If W is so worried about the new democracy in Iraq, then he should be the one to be on top of the ladder there.

He has the plan. Let him go there and be the president. Or King, or whatever.

Meanwhile, we will make do here at home.
Oh, but W, don't forget Condi and Dick and whoever, and whoever. They will all love the challenge of the task.

God speed.

Actually, I think they have raised the max age limit to 41 or 42 now.
