As everyone might know the Better Business Bureau "BBB" has a conflict of interest. It is funded by the very businesses against which complaints are filed. They have no obligation to the consumer. Filing a complaint with the BBB is futile and basically a waste of time.
There is another web site called "Rip-Off Report dot com."
http://www.ripoffreport.com
If someone has done you wrong you can file a complaint against them free of charge. If the accused business feels they have been unfairly or falsely accused they can file a rebuttal.
This web site has been in operation for several years. Persons in the Knoxville area seem to be just now starting to find out about it.

Well, KnoxVol, thanks for
Well, KnoxVol, thanks for making me waste about two hours of my life.
About half of the stuff on that website is either pure B.S., deranged rantings of mentally disturbed individuals, or just whiny deadbeats. The other half that seem like legitimate complaints get lost in the noise. I'm surprised the site hasn't been sued out of existence.
In at least one complaint, I had a similar issue with the same merchant and had exactly the opposite outcome. My situation was handled completely to my satisfaction without any drama at all. I had even offered to pay or at least split the difference for a what was sort of an honest mistake on their part, but the company wouldn't hear of it and insisted on making good. I wonder how many people end up not getting their complaints resolved because they just don't know how to communicate or be fair or even act like adults?
That said, this "Pizza Hut Confidential" post is the all-time greatest drama ever posted on the internets. It's got everything: Sex, drugs, violence, lawsuits, criminal charges, allegations of a homosexual affair between a DA and a defense attorney, racism, communists -- you name it. And it plays out over about two years. Totally awesome.
Get a fresh cup of coffee and read Pizza Hut Confidential:

Be sure to read the WHOLE THING. Trust me. Quentin Tarantino could not make this stuff up.
Favorite quote:
"She's [a] real whore, if you know what I mean."
Runners up:
"We should run pinko fruitcakes like this out of the state along with the rest of the trash on TennCare."
"Obviously the two city trash individuals didn't realize that I wasn't from Alcoa, but from Townsend, a mountain community where people are slightly more rugged. Both ended up in the emergency that night, one for an extended 3 day stay."
"I found out that not only is the judge a liberal democrat but that the DA's office is a bunch of liberals. Everything is starting to make sense. This is politically motivated."
Sounds like some of the best

I like these two comments in juxtaposition:

The police had a very hard time figuring out just what was going on. With all due respect, most policemen are working with very little mentality any ways.
And I'm not even halfway though it all!
[EDIT] It just gets better:
I am single and don't get me wrong, Bethany coming on to me when I close is tempting, and I could probably get a quick session in the office, but her reputation isn't all that good. But like I said, I am single, my frustrations for sex can't go on for long. That's why I am not even going to discuss what happened between me and her. I will say this much, if she lied to me about being on birth control (I don't like condoms, it feels better bare and raw cut hard) I will be filing a suit of my own.
Keep reading. Bethany missed
Keep reading. Bethany missed her period!

The BBB helped me out a few years ago in a dispute I had with Gateway Computers. Not sure where your hatred of them (BBB) stems from...
My dispute with Gateway a
My dispute with Gateway a few years back was resolved with the aid of American Express and a family friend who just happens to be a really good attorney.
Just a guess
But I'd say it comes from a negative experience with them. Congrats on your positive experience, as that is not always the case.
Don't hate 'em - It's Just Conflict of Interest is Obvious
Justin said - "The BBB helped me out a few years ago in a dispute I had with Gateway Computers. Not sure where your hatred of them (BBB) stems from..." Perhaps I should have not been so stern with my comments about the BBB.
If the company is responsible (most companies are responsible) then the Better Business Bureau can help.
Obviously, though since the BBB is funded by businesses - not consumers - they do have a conflict of interest.
But the conflict of interest issue is irrelevant with an honest company because good businesses want to make things right with consumers anyway.
I spoke with the BBB a few months ago about an issue I had with a professional person. I know for a fact that the person had done wrong but he denied wrongdoing.
The BBB explained their process. I can't remember exactly what they told me but I decided not to file a complaint because it didn't sound like their process would resolve the matter.
I'm sure that the Better Business Bureau does good in some cases, though.

Widespread reports of extortion
I first heard about this website from a client. His company had been listed. In an attempt to get it removed, he encountered a consulting company which offered to "protect his online identity and reputation" for about $30,000. Turns out the consulting company is owned/run by the same guy who owns/runs ripoffreport.com. There is a lot of information about extortion by this website and its owner (here's one, here's another, here's yet another). Might want to stay as far away from this website as possible.
