The Great Smokey Mountains National Park gets a spanking in a new list of the top National Parks at National Geographic. Some of it is deserved, some of it not, but the communities of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Cherokee NC get especially harsh (and in my opinion, unfair) treatment.

P.S. the NG article also ranks the Grand Canyon poorly, for many of the same reasons. Basically, it seems parks that are more accessible have more pressures that threaten them.
