By being master video gamers, I guess. From the Knoxville News Sentinel:
"My parents think I am the stupidest person alive," said Ervin Grove, a Bearden High School senior. He and seven of his Bearden classmates were the first in line outside of Best Buy in West Knoxville. Some of them skipped school, and they pitched a tent to be assured of getting the game [Sony Playstation 3], which they intend to keep and play.
It's bad enough parents let their kids spend so much time on these games, but letting their kids skip school to be first in line to buy one? How sad is it that a parent thinks their kid is "stupid" and doesn't do anything about it? Anyway, it must be a pretty sensational game.
Update: More madness.

Yea, but they cost $600 and look what they are going for on ebay this morning. I don't play video games, but I might break out my Therm-a-rest for the Playstation 4 next time.

Yeah, the article mentions
Yeah, the article mentions some UT students camping in line to get them to sell them on E-Bay. They hoped to make $10 per hour for their time. Probably not many ways a college student can make a big chunk of money that fast. That makes a little more sense. The high school kids were planning to keep theirs, though, so they don't even have a profit motive.
Our thriving $10/hr economy
Might be amused at this article about waiting for the PS3, which says you can actually make $10.35/hr!

I have two friends that camped out. One here in town and one in Orlando. Both bought 2 and are selling them on Ebay. I don't think those prices are gonna hold up.
I'm going to wait a year or so. Mostly I just want the blu-ray dvd feature and the 1080p HDMI connection.

How sad is it that a parent thinks their kid is "stupid" and doesn't do anything about it?
Don't put so much value on school. Didn't Bill Gates drop out? We'll be OK.

No video games until they're 12? My boys are 9 and 6 and have had their own computers since they were 5.
Well I'm a software engineer
Well I'm a software engineer and most of my hobbies are computer related so I have a different opinion about the benefits of using computers and the creativity they can inspire. To each his own though.
The semiotics of PacMan?
"...children need computers
"...children need computers like they need more holes in their heads."
Yes, and kids need video games like they need more holes in their heads. Go outside, experience life, read a book, daydream, doodle, play an instrument, etc.
What's wrong with all of the
What's wrong with all of the above? I have 2 kids who truly do everything on your list in addtion to using computers and playing video games. If your kid only plays video games that would be an issue, just as if your kids only sat in the corner reading books and never did much of anything else. I think a balanced plate of activities is best, but that's just one parent's opinion.
