The new face of Tennessee in the United States Senate. Doesn't it just make you proud? It has never been more true that we get the politicians we deserve.

Well framed and well said.

Can't buy me love??

Imus was really mean this morning. He ran a picture of Corker walking across the stage, and then standing on his tippytoes to get his head up to the lectern, and said "Maybe he'll grow in office..."

Corker is going to be a pariah until he can buy him some friends.

How big a boy will he get to be?

Corker is going to be a pariah until he can buy him some friends.

Won't he still be able to get the Haslams to hold his hand?  (And write legislative bills for him to offer?)

  Thanks to our neighbors,

Thanks to our neighbors, the Corker win is not as sweet for the Republicans as it could have been.  Tennessee has replaced a soiled Senate Majority Leader in a failed government with a soiled Junior Senator in a government that may have just turned a life-saving corner.  There is even the possibility that he will be a Junior Senator in the minority party, a place where he can do far less damage to America than the man he is replacing.

Of course Tennessee will be losing the perks of having a Majority (Minority?) Leader in the Senate, but our sacrifice is America’s gain.

We aren’t called The Volunteer State for nothing.

Blue Tide

Yes, the tide turned to blue nationwide... However, Ford lost, so the tide is purple around here. Bredesen was re-elected. A great guy! However, I still think we need a good tax base in this state, no matter what is said about "no new taxes". Graduated INCOME TAX! Yes, I said it. Now, after about two years, Bredesen will be a lame duck and he can "buck up" and help get an equitable tax passed.
Corker, as people in the KNOW are aware of, is a Dubya clone. He used similar tactics against Ford as Dubya used against Kerry. Dubya is a South Carolinian and acts like one. Also, Corker reminds me of a conniving young Strom Thurmond. Yes, its true...Don't loose your lip on me, Corker, old boyyyy! Hunter Thompson is dead and gone but Steve Plonk rides again!

Faux Pas

Addendum to the above comment. It should read CORKER is a South Carolinian...Sorry about that. Dubya is from Texas.

steve...

...well put. I suspect next go-round we'll see more 'left of the big tent' democrats run, talking about core issue that we set; not responding to the ones republicans set for us.

I am anxious to challenge democratic candidates on issues like an income tax, a working wage and doing something about the level of funding for our local schools.

I think, this time, we overlooked some of the more conservative candidates hoping for a democratic win. Personally, I think that lost votes. I'm curious to see what a real liberal democrat can do in deep blue pockets of the state and Knox county.

So begins '08.

For a hint, see Corker's totals in Knox County vs. a "conservative" Ford. In the city, one might have some chance depending on the district, but not likely. In the county, such a candidate would be DOA.

Well, I'm sad for Harold

Well, I'm sad for Harold (and for Tennesseans), but it's pretty hard to be too depressed when waking up to headlines about Rumsfeld resigning, and the thought of 'John Conyers, House Judiciary Chairman.' I bet he's typing up subpoenas right now.

Even my out of state pet candidate, Jerry McNerney, beat hideous anti-environmentalist Richard Pombo. I think I'll go hug a bluebird or something.

Luckily, nearly half of Tennesseans know what a slimebag Corker is, and I'm sure some of us will be counted upon to be his loyal opposition. Look on the bright side: He can't be any worse than Frist.

Didn't see Jean Cork-ah last night at all.

Sorry - it's not 1984. No income tax in Tennessee, thank you. Think fiscally conservative, socially liberal. It works for Bredesen, it works for Tennessee, it works nationally.

Sorry to see that Ford lost, and sorry we elected yet another dumb rich frat boy to the U.S. Senate. With his ethical problems, he'll fit right in with the GOPers in D.C.
