Don't let the GOP rain on our parade.

They say Democrats will raise your taxes. Tell them Republicans took a $250 billion surplus and turned it into a $500 billion deficit and $8 trillion in debt. Tell them to take a hike.
They say Democrats will surrender to the terrorists. Tell them that their policy in Iraq has fueled terrorism worldwide and that Republicans led us into war on false pretenses and that America is tired of being lied to and tired of being terrorized by our own government and that we are not cowards and we will fight to defend America and our Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. Tell them to step off.
They say Democrats will take away your choices for retirement and health care and turn it over to predatory trial lawyers. Tell them that 50 million Americans are uninsured and that corporate robbers have raided millions of working Americans' pension funds and that Republicans have not been good stewards of American family values. Tell them to peddle it somewhere else.
Tell them at the polls. Tell them they've had their chance and America is ready for change. Do not reward bad behavior. Vote Democrat for a new direction. Tell them you want real leadership.

Republicans have screwed up
Republicans have screwed up but handing over the reins to the Democrats, who can't make a decision about anything, is not the answer.
What is, giving Republicans
What is, giving Republicans three or four more chances? Illogical.
I can't believe this
I can't believe this Republican cock-&-bull story about the Democrats "not having a plan" is gaining traction.
What's the Republican plan? The "broken clock" strategy (a broken clock is right at least for two minutes)? The "blind squirrel is bound to find a nut" strategy?

Well, this Republican voted Democrat. I'm damned if I'll live in "fear".
Go, Anonymous!
I bet there'll be more of you this year than some might expect.
Huh?
Life was pretty damn good for me with Bill Clinton at the helm. The country had money in the bank, and so did most of the people.
Look at things now. From Iraq to gas prices to the looting of the Treasury, life is much, much worse for the average American, and for the average Iraqi, too.
It is hard to fathom that anybody would vote to keep these hoodlums in power.
Don't let the GOP rain on
Don't let the GOP rain on our parade.
I heard a comment on local Tee Wee last night that a rainy election day in East Tennessee could actually be a problem for Republicans. They reasoned that elderly voters would be less inclined to venture out in inclement weather to vote and that the East Tenn elderly generally vote Republican.
I consider myself to be borderline elderly and I voted on a day when it was raining like pouring water out of a boot onto a flat rock. I voted heavily Democratic with my dog as a write-in for a couple of uncontested races. I stood there in that line and I thought, "WWED".*

Another local TeeVee station
Another local TeeVee station (WBIR, I believe) had a report that one inch of rain reduces turnout by 1% except among black voters where it is 2.5%. They seemed a little too cheerful about that statistic.
But here in Blount County the rain has stopped, the sun is peeking through the clouds, and voters of all colors, shapes, and sizes are showing up to vote.
It's raining small buckets
It's raining small buckets in Nashville, but the 4 polling places I drove past on my way to work didn't seem to be too affected.
Fact o' business, my precinct, it looked like it was hard to find parking.

Rocky Hill voting
I just returned from voting (6-year-old daughter in tow). There was a line out the door and workers said it had been that way all day. Troubling part...NO FORD SIGNS!!!!!! One volunteer said they ran out. He was suggesting bringing your yard signs to your polling place. Since we live on such a busy road, we left ours in the yard.
No Ford Signs? In
No Ford Signs? In Maryville, there were no Republican signs, which I found odd.

Anyone have a warehouse full of umbrellas or rain suits? May not matter anyway, their turnout might exceed WBIR's turnout expectations. They may for once feel as if they have a voice in Tennessee's politics.
What a great way to get out the votes, offer free umbrella's or poncho's to those who vote.

I went by Fair Garden and Austin East, and they both looked qite busy -- especially Fair garden, where there was hardly anyplace left to park (today is an in-service day for teachers).

Obviously, you and Stacy Campfield think alike. Stacy gave away ponchos as a campaign trinket a few years back.

It must be nice to be able to put such complex issues into such simple solutions. Do we know Dems wouldn't have done the exact same thing? No, we don't. It's just politically convenient, particularly with the benefit of 20-20 hindsight.

Some TV station said that rain keeps more Dems at home and they were laughing at it. WVLT has a new sloga, they've co-opted Fox's "fair and balanced" between WBIR's fluff and WATE's hype, they may be on to something. Stacey

I know, it makes me want to heave. I refuse to watch their news now, and even when I see their news commercials, my finger tends to uncontrollably press the change button. I'm sure their numbers have increased with the neo-population tho. I'm to the point where I feel that No news is better than bad news.

Rain
"a report that one inch of rain reduces turnout by 1% except among black voters where it is 2.5%."
Well that's about a racist thing to say.
But if you look at the weather map (4 pm EST) you'll see the rain is long past Memphis. It may clear out of Nashville about the time hard working working class Nashvillians are heading home or clearing the supper dishes. It looks like wealthy Williamson County is getting a deluge but Nashville and north just has steady rain.
The rain will linger longest in heavily R upper ET. So if that quip has even a grain of truth, 1% of white Rs is far more than 2.5% of black Ds in ET.
I'm still not optimistic, though. I'm not optimistic about much these days.
I had voted early
I had voted on the first day of early voting. However, I did do my part, in a small way, to get folks out to vote today. One friend of mine wasn't going to vote because, and I quote, "the candidates are all a**holes." But she did want to vote against the discriminatory marraige amendment. I reminded her that, as Randy said in the past, she could leave the races blank and vote against the amendment.
Eldest son's friend got all fired up over the weekend when he found out about the marriage amendment. Not sure if he's in Schree's district, but if he is, he'll be voting for Schree and against the remaining repugs. For a young man that wasn't going to vote, he was given enough reasons to get out and vote, by eldest son.
Finally, middle son's friend was over last night. Voting and election day came up in the conversation, and he too said the candidates were all a**holes and wasn't going to vote. I thought it funny that a 21 year old and a 40+ year old had the same thing to say. But, it's your DUTY to vote, I told him. I reminded him that if he stayed home today and did not cast his vote, he could not say anything against the candidate that won. That was enough to get his goose. I printed out where his polling place was, for him, just so he didn't have another excuse.
He called me earlier today, a little before noon, to tell me that he voted. Schree can count another vote in her column from him. He also told me that it wasn't busy at Cedar Bluff middle school.
Slowly but surely, the voters are getting out there. I just hope it's enough to effect a change.
you go, girl
That's the kind of thing that wins elections.
Keep this in mind
If you haven't voted yet, but are planning too vote before the polls close. Keep this in mind, We are at war in Iraq because the Republicans controled the House and Senate.
