Over at the KNS' Upfront Page (aka editor Jack McElroy's blog) he reflects on his 5 years as editor and asks the following:
"So, has our credibility improved? Are we more trusted?"
Read Jack's column. Post your comments. The blog can be found here (link...)

I think it is genius. So far
I think it is genius. So far there are only five replies at Jack's blog. In a week Jack McElroy can claim he asked the question and the few responses were thoughtful and suggested on how the Sentinel can improve. Yada yada...
The Sentinel is so far gone no one cares. The proverbial moot point.
Both CBT and R. Neal have been treated very poorly by the News Sentinel. Yet no elected figure has been treated to any real scrutiny. The kid gloves treatment of Mayors Ragsdale and Haslam is a key example. Knoxville is close to being a company town. Just call it Haslamville.
No matter what good works are done on KnoxViews, Say Uncle, Les Jones, and the weekly alt-newspapers that combined circulation/readership is a drop in the bucket compared to the News Sentinel.
I would be curious to know what others think. Has Jack McElroy done a good job as editor of the News Sentinel?
Kudos, 9
Mr. 9, I have followed (or is the word "endured"?) your commentary here, at the old SKB site, at the Blab, and on k2k. The following remark is the truest, most accurate thing I've ever seen you write:
Good sir, you hit the nail on the head.
--Socialist With A Gold Card
"I'm a socialist with a gold card. I firmly believe we need a revolution; I'm just concerned that I won't be able to get good moisturizer afterwards." --Brett Butler

My neighbor buys a News-Sentinel fairly often and saves me one from time to time. I use them in that little charcoal lighter for my Big Green Egg. I haven't found another use for them, though; I don't have a birdcage.
The KNS is so far gone, nobody really done give a flip
The KNS has become an irrelevant relic in today's newsreporting and their definition of news is really lost in today's news market place.
The problem at the KNS is anybody that's worth a flip is gone in 18 months to two years and they drag in a new cub to handle the routine stuff, that they usually get wrong. There is no consistency to the coverage, their sports writers are lazy and have no sources, but they bust their tail for an exclusive interview with inky and the reporter is suspended by UT. Adams appears to want to taunt the athletic department and drags controversy right into the press box with him.
They softpeddle Scott West and the money laundering on Market Square Mall and then do a hard hitting piece and everybody thinks they've lost their objectivity. Who knows, maybe tomorrow the whole newspaper division of Scripps will be sold to somebody who gives a flip about reporting news, not just selling ads.
If you're sick and tired of living in Haslamville, go ahead and kick their heads and wallets in with a vote for Harold Ford, Jr.
