Our commentary from last night:
Ford seems to have won on substance points, but Corker may have scored on style. Ford is clearly the more knowledgeable and experienced candidate, but Corker stayed on his (lame) talking points while Ford appeared to be trying too hard. Ford needs to go back to his relaxed, confident, stump-style delivery and hammer home his points without trying to reach so much. Corker's pandering to his base is natural and expected. Ford's attempts to pander to Corker's base come across as a little desperate. Ford has no reason whatsoever to be desperate at this point.
Our commentary this morning:
Corker accusing Ford of being part of a family business political machine is hilarious given that Corker is the red-headed stepchild of a powerful East Tennessee family run political/business machine, with a network of real estate developers and consultants and political office holders doing their bidding. Because their favorite son is still on training wheels making his bones as Mayor of Knoxville, Corker is the family's current best bet to install a D.C. insider to do their bidding there.

usual crap
As usual the Sentinel starts the headline and story from Corker's point of view. Haven't got a paper yet. I hope to see more stories about rich kids. BTW, how much of an outsider can you be to have the president come stump for you. For the literal folks, duh, I know Corker isn't an outsider.Stacey

Debate Sunday for TN-09
Ford/Corker debate was nothing unexpected. However the Sunday evening debate between Mark White (R), Steve Cohen (Democratic Primary winner), and Jake Ford (I), was totally a mess.
Jake Ford was enough to sway my vote for both Corker and Mark White!
He attacked Steve Cohen the whole debate, it was almost funny, Mark White looked like a Saint with Ford and Cohen, Ford attacking and Cohen having to reply to the brutal attacks by someone calling themself "independent Democrat".
Jake Ford you are no Democrat, you are a "Ford-o-crat" and not only have you helped Mark White come out of the debate looking like the perfect person for TN-09, you have swayed people that may have been slightly able to separate your brother from the rest of the Ford Family as he replied to Corker when the mention of family came up.
Mr. Corker this debate is about you and me, not our families.
Well Harold, the joke is on you, and it was delivered by the brother you could not separate from, and I guess your Dad couldn't convince to either run in the primary as a Democrat fair and square nor keep from hurting your chances.
Well, Harold Ford Jr. I hope you can convince your brother to withdraw his attacks against the Democratic Primary Winner, with the gall of calling himself a "independent democrat" or the over flow of disgust may flow in your direction.
Sarc alert
So because of loose cannon Jake Ford's attacks on Steve Cohen your vote has been swayed "for Corker and White"?
Interesting, sort of, that you would profess to be so concerned about the poor treatment of Democratic primary winner that you're going to vote for the Republican. Two Republicans, actually. I think you need to find some sort of support group.
I think it's called the "Independent Democrat"
Calling yourself one thing and doing another. Jake taught me how it works!
Corker Family Values
Oh puh-leeeeeze. If you're going to attack Ford's family, then let's take a look at Mr. Corker's. He's big on "family values" and stresses his wholesome family and faith....meanwhile, Miss Emily Corker has a Facebook (like myspace, but for a slightly older crowd) page with a wealth of photos showing her drunk and making out with other girls. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Corker family values.
oh crap
Did I mean JULIA CORKER's facebook? I think I did.
Whichever Emily or Julia,
Whichever Emily or Julia, they are not running for a Federal office!
Jake Ford is, as is Harold Ford JR. - a big difference in antics and a seat in the United States Senate or House, unless you don't know the difference in that.
Do you imply that there isn't a higher standard for a family member running for a US Congress seat than a non political daughter?
I have to agree here.
Whichever Emily or Julia, they are not running for a Federal office!
I have to agree here. Corker's family is not running and they aren't public figures. Although many in Ford's family are public figures and therefore fair game, I wish everybody should leave everybody else's family out of it and stick to the facts and the issues and the respective candidate's character.
If Jeb Bush ever runs for
If Jeb Bush ever runs for higher office I expect to hear nothing of his father, brother or family....yeah, right.
Junior's family is clearly different than most. They are no doubt a political machine in Memphis. They have repeatedly run afoul of the law, including direct ties to politics and elected office (bribery, shootings, failure to pay child support, girlfriends fighting with wives, wives crashing into girlfriends houses, dead people voting, bank fraud, sexual harassment...the list goes on). If Corker had parents, uncles and aunts with this background, Ford supporters would be shouting it from Mountain City to Memphis.
Junior is a Ford. Absent being a Ford, there's likely no way he's running for Senate today. He has to take the bad with the good.
I know you are, but what am I ?
"unless you didn't know that" ???? Did you mean to say in case you didn't know?
Face it - family does come in to play, whether it's Ford's or Corker's or the Bush fiasco. What I'm saying is that Corker may want to clean up his own house (dig deeper - his girls have problems) before he starts slapping someone else's family around. I think it speaks volumes about his character. A son is not responsible for his father's actions, however a parent *IS* held responsible for the acts of their minor child. You can say that every teen behaves as the Corkers do and it's simply not true - for every drunk, panty dancing, bisexual party girl - there are probably ten girls that behave with decent morals and self respect. I'm thinkin' that it may be because of the way they were raised.....
Attack my opinions, not my person - "unless you didn't know"...
Ford's father is a nut job -
Ford's father is a nut job - as are many of his aunts, uncles, seventh cousins once removed, etc. Does that make him guity of their crimes? Hardly. My dad's side of the family is a branch I'd like to disown, and thank God I've never been held responsible for their high crimes and misdemeanors. Harold Ford Jr has not displayed the same tendencies as his father, in fact - it appears that he learned valuable lessons from them. Corker is from a respectable background, yet he has proven to be less trustworthy on issues such as immigration, oil, his activities as mayor of Chattanooga, and his own campaign manager. So do you go with the guy who has a shady family, but has proven himself to be a man of his word - or the guy who comes from a fairly impeccable family and has shown himself to be a liar? I know where my vote will go. Family issues will always be raised, from Dick Cheney's daughter to the Bush twins right down the line to the Fords and Corkers. I think it reflects more poorly on a candidate to have kids that flaunt the laws than to have overcome parents that made their road rockier than it needed to be.
Clearly a very informed article
Did anyone else notice this line-
Because their favorite son is still on training wheels making his bones as Mayor of KNOXVILLE, Corker is the family's current best bet to install a D.C. insider to do their bidding there.
Mayor of Chattanooga.
Some damn fine reporting right there. Clearly very versed on both Candidates. Thanks for playing the "I'm a qualified reporter" game, please pick up your free gift on your way out.

Did anybody else notice that Jonathan's doing some damn fine reading comprehension here.
Except
He evidently never heard of Knoxville, the town on the river with lots of dogwoods and big gold balls and Star Line paddlewheelers exactly like the pictures on top of this page under the name Knox Views.
Other than that, he's a pretty smart feller.
Maybe he knows something
Maybe he knows something about Littlefield that we don't know?
