WATE reports that the homes in the waterfront area are doomed and will eventually be taken for development. No mention of only targeting dilapidated homes, or plans to preserve the neighborhoods, or appeals to council. I don't think they bothered to read the plan, or interview Dave Hill. Why bother when sensationalist news brings viewers?
The image of people continuing to live in their homes and getting help from the city for repairs is kind of boring, actually.

This fear mongering was also evident in the piece about dogs. They missed an excellent opportunity to talk about puppy mills, proper training, and responsible ownership. I wouldn't allow my Rottweilers near the TV.

Well, Mamaw and I agree on this one. Sloppy, shoddy reporting. Although what's-her-first-name Alpo's piece in today's KNS wasn't much better. Where was Hayes Hickman last night?
BTW, I just sent Channel 6 a scathing email. Wonder if they'll bother to reply?

#9: Will you share it with us?
Would have been glad to, but did it on the form they provided and didn't keep a copy. The gist was a lot of what Mamaw said, with a few extras thrown in. I ended up suggesting they do a follow-up story, since this one not only missed the nuances, it needed a major overhaul.

Jamie Foster replied to me right away, said "We are not out to be fearmongers." Were they still running those lurid promos last night?

Yep, that's like turning in Mike Ragsdale for a codes violation for property he doesn't own.
(link...)
“I e-mailed Conley and the mayor (Ragsdale) a week before I turned them in to the city on a dirty lot ordinance violation. Conley said he would look into it. A week later, nothing had happened, so I called 311 and reported it. That’s when it got mowed.”

one more time. Her name is Alapo. You should apologize to her for making a joke out of her name.
re Brownlow. Mr. Ragsdale has a letter agreement with Mr. Conley that continues the terms of the Dewhirst agreement (dated July 2005) Something Mr. Conley denies in that article. So Mr. Ragsdale is equally responsible for the deal he cut on Brownlow. They are both responsible for the current condition of Brownlow School.

Oh hell, is THAT what you were talking about? I couldn't figure out why you were beating up on me. I wasn't trying to make a joke out of her name. I just got it wrong - I didn't have the story in front of me and I only sort of noticed who wrote it.
And then when I read your comment I focused on you giving me her first name, not correcting the last. It was just a whoops.

We'll see.
Pick on me if you want, Doug, but Ms. Alpo's story also contained a paragraph about the city taking land for developers. That's crappy reporting. I cut her a little slack cause this is Hayes' story; he's been following it and she hasn't. Still.

Thanks for the info about Hayes; I'll drop him an email.
I was home watching on tee vee, but I missed the first 10 minutes or so. I would have liked to have been there, but have been dealing with a health issue the last couple of weeks and didn't quite feel up to it.
