A gentle reminder that area Shoney's restaurants will be serving free hot fudge cakes all day long on December 4.

Beat me to it. Can't wait.
Two little boys at our house
want to thank you for letting their parents know!
Free family fun
(in reply to Mike Knapp)
When my two kids were the age of your two, I kept an index card file of every food or entertainment freebie to be had, all year long.
In the way of entertainment, we got in free at the zoo (by presenting our old toothbrushes at the gate), caught free movies at Regal (with Mom's beach bag purse loaded with junk food from home), and made every Market Square event (who knew an eight year-old boy would not only get Shakespeare's jokes, but appreciate them).
Also downtown were free events at ETHC and Lawson-McGhee. Concord Park offered picnics replete with free concerts and free canoe boating. And we never missed Knoxville Museum of Art's free Family Fun Day.
My own late mom once offered, hesitantly, that she was afraid we spent too much on entertainment and meals out for the kids.
Uh, no, we didn't. :-)

P.S.--I especially enjoyed being a Mystery Shopper for O'Charleys for a couple of years. I was *obligated* to take my party of up to six people out to dinner about once a week at their various ET locations. Appetizer, dinner, dessert, and drinks (including one alcoholic one, if we chose), all half-price.
We generally chose the weeknight on which kids ate free :-)
That's awesome
(in reply to Tamara Shepherd)
I've got a shorter list of free stuff but have put it on the list to update my kids' free list! They're going to destroy that shoneys chocolate fudge Sunday plus the shirt they came in wearing...
Tamara that mystery shopper sounds grand. I would welcome the opportunity to be a secret shopper at O'charlies, Echo, Nama, Dixons bbq, ye old steakhouse, chandlers and any other number of places I no longer get to on a semi regular basis. We had a ball last Wednesday going to the zoo (free visits with membership) and then off to tomato head where it is not free but delicious.

Looks real to me.
Definitely Real!
(in reply to michael kaplan)
Definitely real - shot with a Nikon S630 at 14:46:09 on December 6, 2011, and eaten shortly thereafter at the Shoney's on Western Avenue in Knoxville.

After a great deal of prayerful thought, I've come to the conclusion that you are not getting enough ketchup. It's either that or your underwear is too tight.

Michael, Kenny and I invite you to Come to Jesus at Shoney's on Western Avenue on Tuesday, December 4 at the hour of his choosing, as is Kenny's and my Free Hot Fudge Cake habit. Coffee for the both of you is on me.
Kenny, at what time will you be picking me (and that son of mine) up, so that Michael may meet up with us immediately after our 15 minute commute?
:-)
How 'bout 2 PM?
(in reply to Tamara Shepherd)
How 'bout 2 PM?
2 pm is OK with me. Is that
(in reply to redmondkr)
2 pm is OK with me. Is that the Shoney's at 4410 Western Ave
Knoxville, TN 37921?
Can I bring my $15/hour Living Wage sign?
There's also a Shoney's on Chapman Highway, if that's more convenient ...
The rally
(in reply to michael kaplan)
You could go directly from the rally/protest at Cumberland and 17th. It starts at 11:30.
I have written a song for it. Actually it came to me in a dream so I haven't had time to check if it's a suppressed memory.
Refrain:
Let us sing. Let us sing.
Let us sing in the band.
Let us sing. Let us sing.
Let us sing in the band.
Verses;
Let them let our brothers work
Let him make a just wage
Let him bring his fair share home
When it's time to take his pay.
Refrain
Let him have the right to speak
Let him stand up as a man
Let the truth ring from our streets
From our brothers in the band
Refrain
Let police take their armor off
Let's talk man to man
Let us sing with peace and calm
As brothers in the band
Refrain
Let our children have a right to eat
Let them have food each day
No child should be hungry here
If our nation learns to pray
Refrain
If anyone talks to anyone with an acoustic guitar today, tell the to bring it to the rally. I have a chant/tune for this swimming around in my head. I'll be the guy with the "A Living Wage is Good for Business" sign. Peace out.
Forecast for the protest
46 degrees and cloudy.
It will be a good day to picket.
Let Them Eat Cake?
Oh, thank you, Kenny! The boy and I will be ready at 2:00 and packing the Wet Naps.
Michael, if Kenny's to pick us up at 2:00 to get over to Western Avenue, I'm thinking your hot fudge conversion is imminent about 2:15?
As for the living wage sign, I'd thought to wave one around at the rally Thursday morning, myself. I do wonder, though, at the propriety of carrying one into a restaurant on the very day that the mongrel capitalist pig-dog is serving up gooey free food? We proles wouldn't want to effect any Let Them Eat Cake attitude--or would we?!
All I know is that I'm hoping for a chunk at least as big as the one in that picture...
I would join y'all, but I
(in reply to Tamara Shepherd)
I would join y'all, but I have a prior commitment, which is also keeping me from the $15/hour rally. Buddy's also has a nice hot fudge cake. Nothing free though.
tamara, how will i recognize
(in reply to Tamara Shepherd)
tamara, how will i recognize you?
Can we get them to go?
I can't stand the smell of Shoney's, but love the hot fudge cake.

It appears KV has few Charm School alumni...
May I suggest going inside, sitting far from the kitchen, and ordering/paying for a cup of coffee?
Since they don't have a drive-thru and aren't likely offering free shipping, either?
:-)

I'm still a gray-headed (nearly white-headed) bespectacled old crone. Weight's down just a bit, to around 95 pounds.
Just "bespectacle" my Facebook page photo, I guess? Although my hair's now grayer.
Besides, I'll recognize you.
Update
Count me out. I'll be sleeping. The graveyard shift is killing me.
Until the Next Time!
(with apologies for the lousy cell phone picture)
Thanks Tam and Michael for the good visit.

I still can't figure why I got served that great big melamine bowl (with a slice of cake twice as big) and you guys got the smaller Styrofoam ones--but I get a gold star for disposing of it, huh?!

I think it was because you ordered food and we just ordered drinks.

(in reply to michael kaplan)
I know that and you know that, but they didn't know that.
:-)

It was probably the tiara.
You really should take me out more often.

Those empty bowls have nothing on the chicken chunk flatbread I ate from the school cafeteria today. Nothing... Seriously though glad ya'll did it! The organic connections are so important, especially those involving food n such.
Looks Like
A Whole Lot of Scraping Went On.

More seriously, I was glad to get to introduce these two longtime KV-ers to one another, both of whom I'd known for years.
Wonder if our gracious host here has any ideas on how we could schedule a bigger get-together over the long Christmas-to-New-Year holiday? Lots of people are off work and/or out of school? Just a thought.
