On this day of remembrance, as we try to understand how this could happen and sort out who to blame, let us not forget who did it. I for one hope the bastards who died carrying out the attacks are rotting in hell and that I live to see the other sons of bitches responsible for this brought to justice.

The Saudis
I doubt that'll happen, since the Bush family has such a cozy relationship with the Saudi royals and their buddies, who were chief among the financial supporters of Al Qaeda. Even though the Saudis have spent the last three years trying to backpedal out of their support for terrorists, I don't believe for a minute we'll ever root out the financial supporters of 9/11, since that would strike too close to home for certain people in power.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed might actually be brought to trial one day (at least I hope so), and we might read one day that Osama bin Laden died of kidney failure in the mountains of Pakistan. But I fear the parties ultimately responsible and their sympathizers will never be brought to anything resembling justice. The Wahabbist extremists continue preaching hate and death in certain madrassas in Saudi Arabia, and they continue to receive direct financial support from the kingdom.
If the chief export of the Middle East were pistachios, this would have been brought to an end five years ago, and the distraction of Iraq probably wouldn't have happened.

Testimonial
As I look at the photograph, I also see a testimonial to the failure of those charged with our security. Those planes flew for an incredibly long time, unchallenged, with transponders off, while our fighters were ordered to circle over the Atlantic in a hijack scenario drill scheduled for that day.
I contrast, the plane carrying the bin Ladens later was given red carpet treatment.
