State "Career Center" job listing spotted on Twitter:

@TNCCChattanooga Arch Plastics Packaging in Chattanooga seeks Quality Supervisor; $9/hr. BS; 4yr exp. Apply @ http://Jobs4TN.gov

$9 an hour for a BS degree and four years experience? How long will it take to pay off a college loan at that rate? Also, does calling it a "supervisor" position mean no overtime?

yep.
Back when I covered the legislature, I was named Nashville Bureau Chief for that reason. It was a one-person bureau. And the Journal never paid overtime anyhow.

Brisk hiring in Knoxville in the third quarter

is still coming per the ManPower Survey and the big guy who talks like he has a mouth full of rocks.

All this activity for these types of positions which might carry $9 an hour with exempt status where no overtime will be paid.

Let'em crow about it, but there will be financial challenges all the way around.

No OT?

They can not pay the job overtime but it wouldn't be legal.

Marriott Sells Local Business Services

Marriott announced today to their local employees they are selling their business services and all employees will be laid off as of August 1, 2013. They are subject to being rehired by this new company probably at less wages and benefits.

But that is only a part of the problem affecting the local rehired employees. The company Marriott is selling to will contract to handle Marriott's business services. This new company has a notorious record of outsourcing jobs to India. They took over the former GMAC local services and brought Indians over here to train on the jobs using the former employees of GMAC. After the Indians got trained, they laid off the local employes and outsourced the jobs to India. That is their mode of operation.

My friend that works there just got laid off last week along with several others. Does not look like he will get back on. What a shame.
