Utilities vs. rooftop solar: What the fight is about

Interesting article that discusses how utility rates are set and how the solar X factor doesn't compute in their traditional equations. It might also explain why TVA keeps tinkering with their solar policies.

Big utilities could rethink their business model and embrace distributed energy, including solar. They could be the go-to providers for sales, installation, financing, and maintenance. They are sort of doing that with complicated "free market" metering schemes and credits, but as explained in the article this approach doesn't fit their business (government protected monopoly) model.

Imagine a TVA true to its founding principles where they would once again be a leader in the electricity generation arena. Sigh. Gotta have a dream.

TVA Could but they won't

TVA is now a wholly owned subsidiary of the energy cartels. They are not the least bit interested in distributed energy and that's the problem.

And hey...

Did you notice that Lamar went all goofy because bond investors may have lost $500 million (his number)because Obama has suggested selling TVA but hasn't said a peep about the property owners in Roane County who are down $200 million from the coal ash disaster?

Lamar! has spent an entire career enriching himself on the corruption and government teats. Sounds like he lost a dollar.

With 80 years of trying to destroy the TVA, his GOP goon buddies and himself should be delighted to hear about the chance to sell TVA to their patrons, probably at fire sale prices.
