In the next couple of weeks, meetings on three issues of importance to south Knoxville will take place.

The first is this Wednesday, 8/30, at 5 p.m. in the library of South Doyle Middle School.  MPC staff will be on hand to discuss the recommendations in the draft Chapman Highway Corridor Study and review the next steps involving land use and transportation improvements.  You can read about project background and notes from previous meetings here:  http://www.knoxmpc.org/chapman/index.htm

The second meeting is Thursday, 8/31, at 6 p.m. at Kerbela Temple.  This is a community-wide public workshop to discuss the draft form-based codes for the south waterfront.

The next meetings are Tuesday, 9/5 at 6 p.m. and Monday, 9/11, at 6 p.m.  Both meetings are at the South Waterfront Drop In Center.  These are neighborhoods meetings to address comments, questions, and concerns about the south waterfront redevelopment area and TIF.

Many more community meetings, Council workshops, etc. are scheduled this fall as work on the south waterfront plan winds up.  A complete schedule is available at http://www.cityofknoxville.org/southwaterfront/schedule2.asp

i havent had much of a chance to look at this but would be interested in the general impression that folks are getting. Is this a good urban development, or are they wanting to plop the burbs
into the middle of downtown ?

Cityview

I think Cityview will be a good development. I like that it allows public acess to the waterfront, a lot of the parking will be hidden in a structure, and the units have interesting floor plans. John Gunther indicated once that the site plan would be more urban than the one in the renderings but I don't know where to find the latest plan. Maybe the realtor would know.

Later phases will include a restaurant, perhaps a cafe.

I guess you are not familiar

I guess you are not familiar with this area. It is the original "burbs". Unless they tear a lot down, they have no room to put much more in the way of burbs in there.

You should take a look at the plans. So far there are plenty of condos. Then there are more condos. Then they will have condos. The renderings have been pretty non-descript. Is that urban enough?

Have you seen the new condos down on Scottish Pike? They don't get much uglier than that, but then again we could be in for a surprise on the other end of this development.

CitiyView, that's at the Glove Factory, right?

not familiar with the plans.

not familiar with the plans. the area. etc. i was just curious ... but I thought the general push was to extend downtown's area
across the bridge. thanks for the cheery reply, though.

Sorry, didn't mean to take

Sorry, didn't mean to take my irritation out on you. I just get totally frustrated with the purported "development" of Knoxville.

Hey, Mamaw and I agree on

Hey, Mamaw and I agree on something.  I think CityView will be a decent development - much better than the one at the end of Scottish Pike.

John Gumpert held a meeting with community types when he started the project to discuss the plans.  The rep from our neighborhood, herself an architect, was very impressed.

And John will be following the form-based codes for the area, even tho they aren't adopted yet.  He's the kind of developer we want to see more of in these parts.
