A Times investigation has examined and tallied thousands of local incentives granted nationwide and has found that states, counties and cities are giving up more than $80 billion each year to companies. The beneficiaries come from virtually every corner of the corporate world, encompassing oil and coal conglomerates, technology and entertainment companies, banks and big-box retail chains. A portrait arises of mayors and governors who are desperate to create jobs, outmatched by multinational corporations and short on tools to fact-check what companies tell them.

RTFA. Those are considered to be a minor part of the problem compared to outright tax set asides and cash handouts. I have yet to see a cogent argument from you* as to why TIFs or PILOTs are bad. You seem to enjoy the fruits of them from your recently scaled perch in NoKno.

Whatever happened to the wonderful and magical free market?

Why do corporations need these handouts? Are we "picking winners" Where's the Randian "libertarian" outrage?

I'm betting that mystical free market is at the same place as that "great invisible hand" that controls it, a place only Lewis Carroll can see.
