Their incoherent editorial is vaguely reminiscent of the News Sentinel's 2004 Bush endorsement.

Pfffttt.
To the Tennessean, I say, "Pfffttt."
Tennessean was once a hallmark of the Democratic Party in TN
When John Seigenthaler ran the newspaper, as opposed to a bunch of bean counters at Gannett, seldom if ever did they endorse anything but Democratic candidates and the newspaper was available in hard copy form from Bristol all the way to Front Stredt in Memphis and was generally considered the newspaper of record regarding Tennessee government and poltics.
Business is obviously way off at Gannett, forcing additional unpaid vacation down on its remaining employees, including the warm and fuzzy chatter boxes over there at Channel 10, many nights rocking the 11 o'clock news with somebody "off this evening" and certainly not "out on assignment". Circulation within their print newspapers is off, although not to the off levels over at Scripps Howard. Gannett laid off another swath of people at the Tennessean this year and most direction and production of the local newscasts, including Channel 10, are operated out of Jacksonville, Florida
When I was in college, it was
When I was in college, it was my goal to work at The Tennessean someday. But then there was a hiring freeze when I got ready to leave The Daily Post-Athenian in the early '80s. I ended up in Arkansas, thinking I would stay there a couple of years, but then I ended up in the state Capital Bureau covering this guy named Bill Clinton and decided that was pretty fun so I ended up staying in Little Rock. When Gannett closed my paper there in 1992, I ended up staying in Little Rock because of relationships. Gannett was offering to relocate us, but I'd had enough of corporate journalism.
Little did I know that it was only going to get worse.
