A couple in Orlando, FL, are trying to build a home with parts made in the USA. They have a blog. With a lot of hard work they were able to find a lot of U.S. made supplies. However, there are some things that can't be found, e.g. microwave oven and ceiling fans. They are still looking for trim wood from the U.S. I'll have to check with our local lumber company, Anderson Lumber, to see if they get any trim wood in the U.S.

An architect friend uses Poplar for trim. That's a regional wood, I believe, and very handsome as it ages (if left natural).

We have poplar trim with a clear coat around the windows. I love it, but it is not the norm in these parts. I'll have to ask Anderson Lumber where their poplar comes from. So far, the two local carpenters we have dealt with don't understand light colored wood.
