Cash Mob to visit Emery’s 5 & 10 in South Knoxville

Knoxville, Tenn. - After more than a week of anticipation, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett announced Thursday the first location to receive a visit from the "Knox Cash Mob."

"I am proud to say that the first Knox Cash Mob location will be Emery’s 5 & 10 on Chapman Highway," Mayor Burchett said. "Emery’s is a local institution, and this business represents so much of what is good about our local entrepreneurs. I hope everyone will come to South Knoxville tomorrow and spend $5 or $10 at Emery’s, or any other South Knoxville business."

Cash mob participants are asked to visit the store sometime between 5 and 7 p.m.

Emery’s 5 & 10 opened in 1927 and is a third-generation business. According to the store’s website, it is the oldest family-owned 5 & 10 store in the United States. Owner Ron Emery is a former U.S. Marine. He was wounded in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. His father also served in U.S. Military and was a bomber pilot during Workd War II.

Great idea from Burchett, and a good choice for the first target. Plenty of unique Valentine's Day gifts to be found at Emery's.

Puns win out

Let's face it, they just couldn't resist asking people to spend 5 or 10 dollars at the 5 and 10 cent store.

But it's a great choice for the week before Valentine's Day.

isle jams

I went by there today to buy a few things and it was not always easy to navigate through the isles. Just one person in the wrong place can mean a detour. But it was nice to see the crowd and check out their eclectic array of merchandise. Then I went and browsed at the Disc Exchange and realized that it has been years since I have browsed CD's. I should have brought my Ipad to remember what I already have.
