You may recall that state Sen. Stacey Campfield introduced SB48 that would require drug testing of welfare recipients (HB230 by Rep. Dunn in the House).

Florida Gov. Rick Scott signed a similar ALEC bill last year. Before the program was shut down by a Federal judge, only 2% of welfare recipients failed the drug tests. That compares to 6.3% of the general population over 26 using illicit drugs. Before it was shut down, the program resulted in a net loss to the state of $200,000.
