Homeowner shoots intruder
January 13th home invasion gone bad. A suspect breaks into a home in rural East Knox County. The homeowner subsequently shoots the suspect in the backside with a shotgun.

A vendor shot himself in the hand today at a gun show in Chilhowee Park. He was showing his handgun to a friend and he removed the magazine but failed to check for a round in the chamber, the classic mistake every handgun owner avoids.

The rule is no loaded guns at all, but it is the organizer's rule-not law. I'm sure it is heavily violated. But being in a city park might also make it a violation of law, too. They always have police officers at the door checking guns brought in to sell, but they are not checking concealed weapons or all the transactions occurring outside. I always assumed these officers were off-duty, being paid by the organizer.

In North Knoxville near the intersection of Bluff Street and Folsom Avenue (behind Broadway Shopping Center), it is being reported someone was shot in the leg.
Young man dead from gunshot in North Knox County
January 31, 2012, a young man in his mid-20s was reported dead from a gunshot wound to the head at 6568 McFall Road in the North Knox County Halls community.

A man was shot in the leg at his residence (833 Atlantic Ave.) after being beaten. It's being reported the shooting suspects were after money.
Fourth shooting in North Knoxville in two weeks
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, a drive-by shooting occurred in Mechanicsville at the corner of Moses Ave. and Wallace St. The young male victim's injuries are reported to be serious.

Friday, Feb. 10, a man was shot in the back "around 11:30 p.m. on the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Junior Avenue when he was leaving a party."

A man was shot in the arm Monday, Feb. 13, 2012. KPD was called to his home in East Knoxville, 313 South Olive Street in Walter P Taylor Homes, around 8:45PM.
Fight escalates into guns fired
Early Thursday morning, February 16, 2012, KPD says a group of around seven women got into some kind of argument and it escalated. Several shots were fired, shattering some car windows and one woman was grazed in the head by a bullet.
The incident occurred at the Green Hills Apartments, 1900 Natchez Ave. in East Knoxville, just off of Riverside Drive.
Fight over vehicle results in shooting
Tuesday, Feb. 21, a person was shot multiple times at 2309 Highland Dr. in Fountain City, North Knoxville, after an argument over a vehicle.

Tuesday, Feb. 21, just after 8 PM, a person was found shot at the 4300 block of Hayes Road in North Knoxville.
Young man found dead in East Knoxville
Wednesday, Feb. 22, a student was walking home and found a dead man in the alley near the 3400 block of Ashland Avenue, in East Knoxville. Officers believe he was shot to death.
Man shot in leg in East Knoxville
Saturday, Feb. 25, a man was shot in the leg on Seminole Avenue in East Knoxville then driven to the Marathon gas station at 1324 Cherry Street.
Man shot near Love Kitchen
Early this morning, Sunday, Feb. 26, a man was shot at the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
There were three reported shootings in this block in 2011.
Second shooting on Moses Avenue within a month
March 3, 2012, a man was found shot on Moses Avenue near Wallace Street in Mechanicsville, North Knoxville. This is the second shooting on this block within a month. The first shooting on Feb. 7, 2012, was reported as a drive-by shooting.
Man dead from shooting in parking lot at Walter P. Taylor Homes
Monday, March 5, a man was found shot around 9:21PM in parking lot P of the Walter P. Taylor Homes apartment complex off of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in East Knoxville. He later died at the hospital.

Friday, March 9, a man and woman were shot in their car while stopped (visiting?) near the intersection of Selma Avenue and Skyline Drive in East Knoxville.

15-yr old boy shoots someone
Wednesday evening, March 14,2012, a male teenager shot a man in the foot. The shooting occurred in North Knoxville at 133 Oldham Avenue.
Father shoots son after being attacked
Sunday evening, March 25, 2012, around 7:30 PM, a man pulls a knife on his father and chases him into the backyard of the father's residence on Coventry Road in West Knox County. The father ends up shooting the son in the abdomen.
Sixth shooting in the month of March, 2012
This is the second shooting in March that resulted in a death.
Sunday afternoon, March 31, 2012, around 3pm, two men were shot, one of the men died at the hospital. Authorities believe the shooting took place in an alley off of Monroe Street, between Glenwood Avenue and Washington Avenue, in East Knoxville.

Sunday, April 1, 2012, a man died from gunshot wounds received in a shooting near the 1500 block of Mississippi Avenue, Mechanicsville, in North Knoxville, near the Knoxville College campus.

Wednesday, April 4, 2012, a shooting was reported at Magnolia Cafe, 2405 E. Magnolia Ave., in East Knoxville.
In 2011, two shootings were reported in the 2400 block of Magnolia Ave. In Sept, 2011 a man was killed in an officer involved shooting at the Magnolia Cafe. In 2010, three shootings were reported in the 2400 block of Magnolia Ave.

Friday, April 13, 2012, a shooting occurred at 2516 Washington Ave. in Parkridge near Cherry Street. One man was found dead in the house. Another man was dropped off at Physicians Regional Medical Center (St. Marys) by unknown persons.

Monday, April 30, 2012, a shooting occurred at 5036 N. Broadway in Fountain City (North Knoxville). An employee of a liquor store shot at a fleeing shoplifter. No one was injured.

Thursday, May 3, 2012, the Knox County Sheriff's office responded to a shooting in East Knox County, 3205 Holston Hills Road. A man was injured and a weapon was recovered.

Saturday, May 12, 2012, 10:30PM, the Knoxville Police responded to a reported shooting and found a man with a gunshot wound at 926 Woodland Avenue. The site is just a couple of blocks from Beaumont Elementary School.

Thursday, May 17, 2012, 7:30PM, a man was shot inside an apartment in the Western Heights Housing Development, McSpadden Street at W. Woodland Avenue. It is reported the man knew the shooter. Again, the site is just a couple of blocks from Beaumont Elementary School.
Man shot outside East Knoxville night club
Saturday, May 19, 2012, 5 AM, a shooting was reported outside Rock's Grand Lounge, 2415 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., near the Love Kitchen A man was shot in the leg after a fist fight.
This is the second shooting in this block this year. There were three reported shootings in this block in 2011.
Murder in North Knox County
Monday, May 21, 2012, a man reportedly shot and killed his wife, her twin sister, and another woman at their apartment, 7310 Old Clinton Pike, in Powell, North Knox County.
First shooting on the South Side of town in 2012
Wednesday, May 23, 2012, around 10:45AM, three armed young men attempted to rob a convenience store in South Knoxville at 1316 Maryville Pike, near Montgomery Village (City). A store employee shot one of the men. All three suspects have been apprehended.

Thursday, May 24, 2012, just before midnight, a shooting was reported at 304 N. Olive St., in East Koxville (City), near the Park City/Park Ridge Fire Station #4.
South Knox store clerk shoots during attempted robbery
Wednesday, May 30, 2012, around 8:45 PM, a man tried to rob the Handy Dandy Market at 3215 South Haven Road (City). The store clerk fired a gun during the robbery, scaring away the robber.

Saturday, June 2, 2012, around 11 PM, a man, husband and father of three, was shot and killed outside his home on the 700 block of Harrison Street near Washington Avenue in East Knoxville (City). The alleged assailant has been caught and charged with first degree murder.

Sunday, June 3, 2012, around 3 AM, a fight broke out as people were leaving the New Amsterdam Bar and Grill, 1836 Cumberland, next to the First Tennessee Bank (City). A male UT student was shot.

June 9, 2012, around 6:40 PM, a young man was shot several times. The shooting was reported at the 500 block of McConnell Street near the senior citizens Residences at Eastport and Walter P Taylor Homes in East Knoxville (City).

June 18, 2012, around 12:30 AM, a woman is in critical condition after being shot at a residence on 2708 Summertime Lane, off East Emory Road in North Knox County.

Shooting at West Knox County apartments
Approx. June 18, 2012, a woman was shot and killed by her boyfriend, then he shot and killed himself at the Heritage Lake Apartments on Grove Lake Way in West Knox County, just off of Westland Drive and Pellissippi Parkway.

June 22, 2012 (AM), a resident of Perry Road (off Strawberry Plains Pike) in East Knox County saw another man "pull out a handgun, racked the slide, pointed it at him and fired three shots into the ground near him."
West Knox County resident pulls gun on police, shot
June 23, 2012, around 6:30 PM, Knox County Sheriff's Offices responded to a disturbance call at 8512 Nubbin Ridge Road in West Knox County. The resident pulled a shotgun on the Knox County Sheriff's Officers. The deputies responded, shooting the resident. The resident died from the gunshot wounds.
Man rents gun in West Knox County, shoots self
July 2, 2012, around 3PM, a man rented a gun at the Coal Creek Armory, 10737 Dutchtown Road in West Knox County. He then proceeded to the shooting range and shot himself.
Shooting death in South Knoxville, Hialeah Drive area
July 3, 2012, around 3:45PM, a 19 year old man was shot to death near the intersection of Hialeah Drive and Smelser Road in South Knoxville.
Within the last two weeks two taxi drivers were robbed on Hialeah Drive. One of the cab drivers was robbed at gunpoint.

Shooting death in South Knoxville, Montgomery Village area
July 9, 2012, a 28 year old man was found dead behind a Montgomery Village apartment building at 1417 Daylily Drive. He died from a gunshot wound. He may have been dead for more than a day. Workers renovating the apartment building found the man Monday morning.
Man shot in East Knoxville
July 14, 2012, a man, shot in the back, was found on Summit Ave. in East Knoxville, early in the evening.
Shooting in East Knoxville
July 16, 2012, around 7PM, a shooting occurred near the intersection of S. Castle Street and Shields Avenue in East Knoxville. "The car, a 2010 Kia Sephia, had bullet holes in it and the glass was shot out, said police." It is not being reported that anyone in the car was injured by gunshots.
Shooting in (possibly) North Knoxville
July 23, 2012, around 3:30 AM, a shooting victim showed up at Tennova Physicians Regional Medical Center (St. Mary's Hospital) in North Knoxville. No additional information has been made available as to where the shooting actually occurred.
Interesting side note, the Knoxville Police Department web site has an area with notices on crimes, etc. in the area that hasn't been updated since July 20. The KPD Facebook page hasn't been updated either.
Shooting in the streets of North Knoxville
August 6, 2012, around 7 PM, a group of people were reportedly blocking the intersection of Wahsington Pike and Whittle Springs Road. Someone in the group shot several times at a driver trying to navigate through the intersection hitting the car at least once.
Media Culpability?
As a general rule I don't bitch too much about being censored but I feel that the two comments that I had removed strongly suggesting (in a somewhat smart-ass manner) that this was the natural progression of gun-nuts wacky carry laws and the mis-application of the second amendment, and that the situation will likely get worse with the new packing laws, while leaving in a plethora of comments suggesting it was all about those out of control negroes gets right to the heart of why there are these sorts of problems to begin with.
The Sentinel has abdicated any sense of journalistic and community responsibility.
Shooting in North Knoxville, University Ave. area
August 14, 2012, around 9:45 PM, a shooting was reported at the intersection of University Ave. and Callaway Street, in the Mechanicsville are of North Knoxville. The man was shot in the leg while riding in a car.
Shooting in West Knoxville, at the Walmart on Walbrook
August 15, 2012, around 1:30 AM, a man was shot at the Walmart near Walker Springs, 8445 Walbrook Drive.
Shooting at close in West Knoxville nightclub
August 25, 2012, around 2:15AM, two men were shot in the parking lot of the La Cueva Club, a nightclub located in the 3000 block of Sutherland Avenue, near Liberty Street and less than a mile from West High School.
Shooting in South Knoxville at/near Spanish Trace Apartments
August 26, 2012, around 9 PM, shots were fired, possibly from the Spanish Trace Apartments, hitting two vehicles near the intersection of Boggs Avenue and Davenport Road.
Shooting death in East Knoxville, Magnolia Avenue
August 29, 2012, around 5:30PM someone called 911 to report a dead body in the Lakewood apartment building at 2730 E. Magnolia Avenue. The Knoxville Police Department said "the victim was dead of apparent gunshot wounds." The apartment building is about two blocks from Austin-East High School.
Shooting in East Knoxville near McCalla Avenue
August 30, 2012, around 12:30 AM, gunshots were heard by officers on foot patrol in the Walter P. Taylor Homes area. Police found the injured shooting victim in the 2200 block of Parkview Avenue.
Man killed in East Knoxville shooting
Sunday, September 2, 2012, around 4:45AM, at Rocks Grand Lounge, 2415 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., near the Love Kitchen, a man was shot. He subsequently died.
This is the second shooting at Rocks Grand Lounge this year and the third shooting in this block this year. There were three reported shootings in this block in 2011.

Vine Middle School student shot
Friday, September 7, 2012, around 4:30PM (30 minutes after school was let out), a 14 year old Vine Middle Magnet School student was shot less than a block from Austin East High School, near the intersection of Hembree Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Ave.
2nd Amendment
It's past time to take a hard look at the second amendment and establish an orderly protocol for weapons.
In order for a standing militia to be effective there has to be a semblance of order within a community and tragedies such as this would suggest we are rapidly progressing towards anarchy.
My son will be fourteen in a couple of months. My prayers are for this young man and his family.
Man shot at Executive Motor Inn in South Knoxville
Friday morning, September 21, 2012, a man was found unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds behind the Executive Motor Inn (3400 Chapman Highway). The Executive Motor Inn connects to the historic Lindbergh Forest neighborhood and overlooks one of the Lustron Steel Homes reported on here in August.
Shooting in West Knox County
A week ago, early Tuesday morning, Septemer 18, 2012, a woman was "hit by bullet fragments" as someone was shooting into a building at Nature's Cove Apartments (formerly know as Bakertown Apartments), a KCDC owned development.
Young man dead from self-inflicted gunshot in West Knox County
Monday, September 24, 2012, a 19 year old man was found shot to death, reportedly by his own hand, in West Knox County, in a wooded area near a subdivision at the intersection of Highwick Circle and Bridgemoore Drive.
3rd shooting in Western Heights this year
Saturday, September 29, 2012, 9:00PM, the Knoxville Police responded to a reported shooting and found a man with gunshot wounds to his leg on West Scott Avenue in Western Heights, North Knoxville. The site is just a couple of blocks from Beaumont Elementary School.
North Knoxville shooting
Thursday, October 18, 2012, 11:30PM, Knoxville police are reporting a man was shot in the North Knoxville area near Radford Place NE and Henegar Street, a couple of blocks off Broadway near Edgewood Ave. The victim reported three men were trying to rob him.
East Knoxville shooting
Tuesday, October 23, 2012, 11 PM, two women were shot while sitting in a car, 3000 block of Magnolia Avenue. A male occupant of the car was not shot. Knoxville Police have a arrested a man involved in the shooting.
Another shooting on Magnolia Ave., East Knoxville
Saturday, October 27, 2012, 6 PM, three men entered the Discount Tobacco and Grocery store, 3122 E. Magnolia Ave., and shot an employee of the store. This shooting is only one block East of the shooting on Magnolia Avenue just four days ago.
Update: Now the incident is a robbery/homicide. The store employee died from the gunshot wound.

Shooting death in East Knoxville, Walter P. Taylor Homes
Saturday, November 3, 2012, around 9:30 AM, a man was shot to death at his apartment in Walter P Taylor homes, 300 block of S Kyle Street, in East Knoxville (City).
This is the fourth reported shooting this year at the Walter P Taylor homes apartment complex, two of the shootings resulted in deaths. The senior citizens Residences at Eastport is located in the same block as Walter P Taylor homes.

Sunday, November 11, 2012, around 5 AM, a man was shot outside the Malibu 7 nightclub, 2514 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in East Knoxville (City).
Shooting in West Knoxville, off North Gallaher View Road
Sunday, November 11, 2012, around 11 AM, a woman was shot near Manor View Apartments, 500 Manor View Drive, at the entrance to North Gallaher View Road in West Knoxville (City).
"The preliminary investigation indicates the three victims and the suspect were meeting for a drug deal when the dealer robbed the buyers," DeBusk said.
Shooting in South Knoxville, Montgomery Village
Tuesday, November 20, 2012, around 9:30 PM, two men were shooting at each other in the parking of the Montgomery Village Apartments on Cook Drive in South Knoxville (City). One of the men was taken to the hospital, the other got away in a brown, older model Chevy Caprice.
Police also said a stray bullet hit the window of a nearby apartment, but no one inside was hurt.

I was coming out of Kroger when that call came down. Never have I seen so many cops/emergency vehicles rushing to the scene. Came home the back way and every time I turned a corner a cop car was rushing by.
My painter lives in Vestal, I asked if he noticed anything unusual, he said the sirens had been a common occurance. I wonder if relocations from Walter P. are setting off turf wars.

Wednesday, November 28, 2012, around 9 PM, a woman was shot as two men attempted a home invasion on Beaumont Avenue near Western Avenue in North Knoxville, Mechanicsville.

Friday, November 30, 2012, around 10 AM, a West Knoxville homeowner shot a man as he and another man were attempting a home invasion at 5455 Lance Drive in the Timbercrest neighborhood.
Shooting in East Knoxville, Arbor Place Apartments
December 3, 2012, around 8:20PM, a shooting occurred at the Arbor Place Apartments (formerly Townview Terrace Apartments), 320 S. Hall of Fame Drive, in East Knoxville (City).
The apartment complex is across the street (Townview Drive) from the Green Elementary School (Green Magnet Math & Science Academy) and Cal Johnson Park (Hall of Fame Drive), behind the Knoxville Coliseum parking garages.
At least one shooting has been reported at this apartment complex in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

December 4, 2012, around 6:45 PM, the Knoxville Police Department pulled over a Chevy Camaro near the intersection of Oglewood Avenue and McMillan Street, North Knoxville in response to a stolen car report.

December 6, 2012, before 12 Noon, a man was injured during a reported shooting in the 5700 block of Tazewell Pike, North Knox County. The injured man left the scene of the shooting and was found in an East Knox County neighborhood.

December 11, 2012, around 9 PM, KPD found an unidentified person with a gunshot wound to the leg. The shooting was reported to have occurred on the 4200 block of Skyline Drive.

The number of reported shootings remained the same in 2012 as in 2011. Howevever, the number of shootings resulting in death increased by 3 from 2011 to 2012. There was one less reported shooting in both the South and North sides of town. There was one less shooting death in South Knoxville. Whereas there were two more shootings and two additional shooting deaths in East Knoxville for 2012 as compared to 2011. The number of West Knoxville shootings remained the same but death by shootings increased from two to four (two of which were suicides). One other West Knoxville shooting was an attempted suicide.
