It would appear that the pond that failed was put in by Gawd who takes no responsibility for some reason.(But seriously folks, can you believe he really said that?) Look what shows up just a few lines below that bit of idiocy.

County inspectors knew of problems

The detention pond at the Childress Road subdivision construction site atop Copper Ridge caught the eye of Knox County stormwater inspector Derek Keck 18 days before it collapsed, causing catastrophic damage to neighbors down the hill.

Now, why would county inspectors be citing folks for problems that are not their fault? The owner of the pond needs to replace the house and purchase outright a transferable insurance policy on the property below. That should be a condition of their being allowed to continue any work or sale of the property above the damaged home.

This is going on all over the county, and it's going to get worse if the mayor cuts back on inspectors as he's indicated. My biggest worry is that Knox Co. is going to let this opportunity be quashed by the Chamber of Commerce. They've got a full court press of their membership calling commissioners asking that this plan be killed and have engaged their lawyer to protest the current structure of the plan. At least Rachel, Rikii, cafkia, a few others and The League of Women Voters support the plan (along with some commissioners and the taskforce members), but too many plan supporters are ignoring the issue. If folks don't start calling their commissioners the developers will be able to hold on to their "not my fault" attitude.

If folks that support this plan don't speak up then it's going to be gutted (like I said before) and Betty will be writing the same story over and over from now on. You have until September.

Hot tubs for runoff attenuation, I'll have to try that sometime. I have seen junked cars used for erosion control-in Kentucky of course.

I really feel for Granju. He's a good guy, but so hamstrung.

What a story? It's hard to fathom what that family is going through, especially when no one is willing to help. It seems like local government should be doing something. Local government is the entity that let the construction company get away with bad practices.
