Since the 1930s, a majority of Americans identify themselves as conservative while a majority of American support liberal policies. Scholars call this "symbolically conservative and operationally liberal." Here's how it works:

My curfew was the street lights. My mom didn't call my cell, she just yelled my name. I played outside with friends, not online. If I didn't eat what mom cooked, then I didn't eat.
