Rep. Lincoln Davis (D-TN) had a Stephen Colbert moment in the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday when he proposed that the anti-gay-marriage amendment should include a ban against divorce and adultery and that adultery should be a felony. Read all about it and watch the video at Think Progress.

Blue Staters
I'z'a reedin' some them thar comments at yonder site.
Them thar blue-staters in comments need a durned adjustmint done at they's Sarcasm Deteckters, y'rekkin'?
(As if anyone suggesting an outlaw of divorce could remotely be taken seriously. From what I know of Davis personally, there's no way in hell that he's seriously advocating the outlaw of divorce. None.)

Bubba, I've been waiting for
Bubba, I've been waiting for you to comment on this. I wasn't sure if Lincoln Davis was serious or not. But now I am so proud of my Tennessee Representative! The idea of not letting folks run for office who have committed adultery or been divorced would get rid of a lot of excess testosterone in Congress (ok and maybe some naughty women too--but not Hillary!).
Andy is absolutely right.
Andy is absolutely right. Think Progress cut out the opening statements where Lincoln is actually arguing against a gay marriage amendment, saying that if they're going to legislate morals then outlaw Adultery and divorce...he actually said gay marriage isn't what's breaking up marriages. I hope the evangelicals don't get hold of the snipped parts...There goes Fentress and Morgan if they do...
Sloppy
Yep. Incredibly sloppy reporting here on the part of ThinkProgress.
In case you didn't notice, they also have this snippet categorized as "Radical Right Wing Agenda."
Maybe they should seek comment from Davis' office before jumping to conclusions.

Why not?
Jesus had quite a bit to say about adultery. Read Luke or Matthew and you'll see he would agree with much of what Mr. Davis says. Jesus himself never said anything one way or the other about same sex relations though. Paul had his opinions but Paul was no Jesus.
So regardless of what happens we should outlaw adultery. More than that though we should listen to those who insist that "our laws are derived from God" (to quote GW) and put the penalty for adultery at death by stoning. Sure, the big J did pardon that one women but he didn't go so far as to change the law (Matthew 5:18) itself. So death by stoning should stand.
Paul had his opinions but
Paul had his opinions but Paul was no Jesus.
That's right, Paul was the walrus. But on bass I'm not so sure. I've never heard Jesus play bass; from Paul, all bass lines flow.
I don't know about all this "stoning" stuff. How does it relate to the Dylan tune, "Everybody must get stoned"?
Proud
Way to go, Rep. Davis! The hypocrites already know the truth but it's good to hear it actually spoken.
Are we sure?
Are we sure he was being sarastic? In 2005 he had the second highest rating for a Democrat from the Family Research Council, and he voted in favor of the Gay Marriage amendment.
Called Davis' office
I called Lincoln's washington office as spoke with a gentlemen named Tom. He said that Davis was simply trying to make a point that if we wanted to protect marriage, it didn't go far enough. However, when I asked him whether or not Davis would've voted for the amendment had it banned Divorce, he couldn't say.
Sounds like he's leaving the
Sounds like he's leaving the door open for any of his constituents dumb enough to think he was serious.
Astute and shrewd
Love. It.
