(Note: As I'm sure Pam has been told by now, it's Chip Forrester, not Chad, and he's the party chairman, not executive director. I believe that's Jennifer Buck Wallace.)

"Skinny Kid from California
"Skinny Kid from California Wins One for the Gooch"
I still like the skinny kid's leadership
Yep, the thing is, I knew all that about Chip Forrester. I even went to the TNDP website to double check the spelling of his last name -- and clearly his first name and title were right there for the checking too. And I had a long conversation with Warren Gooch about the differences in the roles of the two, and how it could change depending on who surfaces wanting to be the new leader.
My only defense is that I was sicker than a dog when I was writing on Wednesday. But that's still no reason for such stupidity.
I apologize, and thanks to Tom Chester for tracking me down today to make sure what I did mean so it could be corrected on the website, and making sure that a correction will be in tomorrow's print edition.
Editing
A suggestion to have KNS editorial staff or one of your friends to edit the column before it goes to press. Errors destroy credibility, asking for an opinion before an article goes out is easy. Every mistake really does matter.
Unless you are a conservative
Unless you are a conservative writer...then errors are just fine as long as they support your narrative.
Ma'aam, you are sadly
Ma'aam, you are sadly mistaken if you think the column goes straight to publication without editing. Someone on the KNS editorial staff always edits it. Always.
Because of time constraints connected to print production deadlines -- it's written on Wednesday for a midday deadline -- having a third party look it over would be problematic. And, as I said one of the complications this week is that I was writing while sick. Never a good idea, and it meant that I busted the deadline which threw some things off kilter at the paper, I'm certain. Note the name/title mistake wasn't caught and the column itself wasn't set to go live on the website at midnight Thursday.
There are reasons connected to a medication that I take for a chronic medical condition that I might make more mistakes than I have made previously. One of the listed side effects of the medication is problems with word retrieval. When I have mentioned problems I've perceived with this to my doctor, he has brushed it off as age-related. The mistakes I make do tend to be with new information rather than ingrained information. Either way, I don't like it. And the medicine does the job it's supposed to do.
Clearly there need to be some steps put in place on my part to make sure that such silly, stupid, inane mistakes aren't made. Identifying someone as Chad instead of Chip is one thing, but also mixing up the title is quite another. I've been thinking of what steps I can take, and I'm going to have a chat with my editor on Monday. I think a couple of measures will be put in place. I hate making mistakes; it's truly not my style.
I always put "XX" in for
I always put "XX" in for names, dates, figures that need to be verified. It makes it easy to segregate the writing process from research. Plus, if deadline pressures make you overlook something, it won't get past an editor!

telling
It is telling when posts are minimal on such a subject as this on Knoxviews.com. All was quite before the Titanic hit an iceberg.
Wrong analogy. The shipwreck
Wrong analogy. The shipwreck is in progress.
please explain
Please explain "the shipwreck is in progress" and do you have any suggestions to save the ship or the captain?
Explained: Order of events out of sequence
We have already struck the iceberg. But perhaps that isn't "obvious."
More candidates. And help them.
Why did we take Kim McMillan out so early? With an unopposed primary, there was no reason for Dems to go vote in December, which hurt local candidates down the ballot throughout the entire state.
Democrats have gotten out of the habit of voting, because there's no one to vote for. Randy and Sam were hurt because they were the only people on the ballot.
No, I don't count McWhertor because it seemed like he stopped trying two months before the election. And an unopposed primary always leads to a weaker candidate in the General.
I, too, wonder about why
I, too, wonder about why McMillan came out of the race. There was a true need for a primary. And, I think you meant August, not December.
Kim McMillan
Kim McMillan was not taken out. She changed paths and in the end she won.
She did win, but what if
She did win, but what if she'd won the Democratic primary. What if there had been a real gubernatorial race in Tennessee this year?
I haven't thought about it in detail, and I know that popular wisdom is that McWherter had the money. I've even heard that he called her and told her he was going to use more of his own money so she might as well drop out. I don't know, but I know that whoever would have survived a Democratic Primary would have been a strong candidate than McWherter ever pretended to be. And he only pretended to be for about five minutes around the filing deadline. It was the worst debacle I've ever seen. I've been told that it's what the powers that be in the party wanted. Well, I've not been told that by the powers, and if it is what they wanted then I hope to hell those powers keep themselves out of the party rebuilding.
