What: Alcoa "Parkway" TDOT public hearing
When: Tuesday, November 9, 2010 - 5:00pm
Where: Alcoa Service Center
A public hearing is schedule at the Alcoa Service Center on November 9, 2010, from 5 PM to 7 PM.
Alcoa Service Center
725 Universal Street
Alcoa, TN 37701
865-380-4800
We do not need a new, 5-6 lane interstate to run through the heart of Alcoa to give commuters a 3.1 mile respite from Alcoa Hwy. It will take away a lot of green space and bring noise and air pollution closer to one of Alcoa's most historical neighborhoods. This "parkway"s is intended to allow commuters a speedy, but very short path to a sudden stop on Hall Road or the 129 by-pass where there is a stop light.

Do you mean a completely new
Do you mean a completely new highway is being planned? Or to make the main road through Alcoa wider? Or to widen the Alcoa highway?
Whatever the answer, this is very disturbing news.
A ridiculous completely new
A ridiculous completely new highway is being planned from Singleton Station Road to somewhere just past Hunt Road.
I'm having a hard time
I'm having a hard time imagining a route between Hunt Rd and Singleton Station, other than the existing right-of-way, that wouldn't involve serious displacement of homes, businesses or a cemetery. The map included in the public notice does not show a route.
It seems like within the ROW you could turn the SE side of Alcoa Hwy into a frontage road for local traffic (segments of which already exist) and make the airport side for through traffic only, with a couple of flyovers.
Depending on the proposed
Depending on the proposed route, it will dislocate some of the UT Ag campus over there, Pine Hills golf course, a few houses, and cause serious disruption of the Springbrook although it will only take one or two houses at Hunt Rd. It could also impact the view of the mountains from Alcoa Highway.
Your plan makes a lot more sense. It would be our preference.
We have some maps we got from Alcoa Engineering but they are large. I'll try to scan them in.
