Because there appears to be a great deal of interest in the Knox County Commission 2nd District race with a lot of things being said by supporters of both candidates here, KnoxViews invites Amy Broyles and Don Daugherty to an open, freestyle debate here in comments.

There are no rules, other than the only comments that will be allowed are comments by the candidates using accounts registered under their real names and verified email. Any other comments will be removed.

(Thanks to Bill Young for the suggestion.)

UPDATE: Never mind.

Thanks Randy

I have stated that I would be happy to participate in a debate only if it is sponsored by the League of Women Voters. If you can get the League to approve your concept, I'm in!

Perhaps if not a debate

Perhaps if not a debate (which is a cool idea), they would at least answer questions you submit to them. I bet you can find some 2nd district folks to help you identify important issues.

I hope the same offer will be

I hope the same offer will be made to 4th district county commission candidates. Its time for finbarr saunders to take responsibility for targeting 4th district for PSH.

You are Welcome

Thought it would be an intersting concept for the new media.

And,IMO,Knoxviews is the most powerful voice of the new media in the Knoxville market.

Randy only stated one rule.

The comments would be restricted to the candidates.

However, one candidate, has publicly commented & set forth another rule.

The League of Women voters must approve.

Which could prove to be difficult.

The other candidate has not publicly commented.

Update:I have made it clear to Don & many of his
supporters that I am for Amy in this race.

I like Don,voted for him for Democratic Party Chair.

I am also friends & political allies with
many of his supporters.

On this one we differ but I will not burn bridges with folks
I like & respect.

No matter the outcome.

We will be political allies,in the future.

And I will remain friends with folks on the other
side of this race,as well.

That's what I did in the 2003 mayor's race.

And that's what I will continue to do.

With respect to a Knoxviews debate between Don & Amy.

I agree with R's only rule..just the candidates comments
be allowed.

It's a hard fought race..& in hard fought races emotions
run high..this race is no different.

So candidates..get on Knoxviews & state your case!

Strategy

Bill, Amy has lots to lose and nothing to gain by "debating" Don in this forum.

I can't recall a race where a better district representative faced such money and power. But Don is a non-resident, somewhat flawed challenger. In the end, the district will repel the invader and retain Broyles. -- s.

Ditto

Sandra's right. That's what happened in 2002 and 2008, already.

Refreshing that she's offered, though, isn't it?

Meanwhile, back at The Firm, that five o'clock whistle blew a couple of hours ago...

Frankly I think Don has lots

Frankly I think Don has lots to lose in a debate too. I think that's why we haven't heard from him. I'd be more than a little curious to hear some straight answers to some of his answers from questions those of us who live in the district have to his interloping.

Come out, come out, whoever you are

It occurs to more than just moi that every commenter in this forum who has either derided Broyles or touted Daugherty (sometimes simultaneously) has hidden from view under some frankly pedestrian screen names. Ron Peabody's alleged supporters also prefer the darkness. Could these folks be one and the same? Is there a Peadaugherty faction at work?

Peadaugherty Faction

Band name alert! :)

Van Guilder's instincts are

Van Guilder's instincts are so sharp they are scary. I think the shopper needs to be prepared to lose Van Snooper to 60 minutes,he has figured us all out. Mr Peabody,I guess the gig is up.Drats!!!
