It just doesn't seem right to sue employees for this type of thing. Will we ever know the full story as to why these 31 people were given the opportunity to change pension plans and why they did not select the defined benefit plan when they had the opportunity?

city sues self

I'm sort of curious how/why the city (head executive is Mayor) sues the Pension Board (senior board member is Mayor.)

It appears, according to the copy of the lawsuit attached to the article, the pension plans were changed after these people made their choices. The referenced changes, according to the employees, would have led them to make a different decision, thus they should be allowed an opportunity to choose again. Or, the city/pension board needs to take back the ordinance 0-413-00 that was passed after these employees made their decision. It doesn't seem right to force employees to make a decision and then change the rules after their decisions are made (one-time irrevocable).

There was a 2006 referendum

There was a 2006 referendum vote on allowing them to revisit their pension decision and the voters turned it down.
I don't understand how the pension board could proceed in spite of that vote.

And who has defined benefit pensions anymore besides public employees?

Apparently he (the Mayor) was not at the meeting where the disputed decision was made because he was out campaigning for governor.
