The Maryville Daily Times reports that the paper has been sold to Jones Media, publishers of the Greeneville Sun among others. Daily Times publisher Max Croster will not be staying on.

The paper was previously owned by Horvitz Newspapers out of Bellevue, Wash. Jones Media appears to be a larger outfit, and at least has a more local presence.

The Jones Family is a good

The Jones Family is a good organization. I worked for the Athens paper after the bought in the '80s. It was a good community paper, and they backed us/me when there were Sunshine Meeting violations by the McMinn County School Board. One of the sons, Alex S. Jones, went to the big city and has made a considerable name for himself as a media critic after some years as a NYT reporter. My guess is that it's a very good deal for the Maryville paper.
