The KNS quotes an anonymous TDOT source as saying the Orange Route will not be built because it "would not meet the stated purpose and need." TDOT has previously announced there would be an announcement about the project today.

Congrats to CABOL and to TDOT

Congrats to CABOL and to TDOT for making the sensible decision.

And does any of this sound familiar?

the parkway was too expensive..., would degrade air quality, ... was a boondoggle for businesses seeking interchanges along the road and that the proposed route was fraught with caves and sinkholes.

Sounds an awful lot like the Midway Industrial Park fiasco to me.
Too expensive, bad for air quality, a boondoggle for business, plagued by bad geology...all of these are among the many arguments for not proceeding with Midway.

And consider how much was spent on this project already:

TDOT said it spent about $1.1 million funding the design team that was unable to reach consensus.

The source said TDOT has spent about $7.5 million on the project so far, including the design team, environmental studies and public meetings.

This is less than has been spent on Midway, but its still a huge chunk of change.

And here's to hoping TDOT will also nix the "Green Route".

Hmmm

Wonder why TDOT didn't punt to the new governor? Scared that Haslam might spend road money someplace besides Nashville?
