What: Ijams Nature Center 100th Anniversary Celebration
When: Saturday, May 22, 2010 - 10:00am
Where: Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Avenue, Knoxville

The Ijams Nature Center celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a Founder's Day Celebration, Saturday May 22nd.

Activities and exhibits from 10AM to 2PM will include archery, geology of Ijams, birdwalks with leaders in period scout uniforms, water rockets, historic campsite set up, history of Boy & Girl Scouts exhibit, astronomy exhibit with telescopes, tracking station and a scavenger hunt, followed by a cookout at 2PM until 4PM.

A new Ijams Family Photography Exhibit will also debut, and there are organized bike rides departing from Market Square downtown at 8AM and 12PM.

The cost is $2 for members and $3 for non-members.

Dogs allowed?

We haven't visited Ijams since becoming dog owners two years ago.

Happen to know whether they're allowed there?

Last time we were there for the plant sale there were lots of dogs, including ours. Don't know about on the nature trails and stuff, though.

Actually, now that I think about it we did see someone walking their dog on one of the nature trails.

OK, the definitive answer on dogs...

Ijams Nature Center:

The grounds and trails are free to the public and are open during daylight hours. Dogs love Ijams! You are welcome to bring your leashed dog.
