150 people out of 400,000 plus in Knox County attended the Knox County Mayoral candidate forum tonight.
Do you think if the forum was reported in the stupid daily paper more people would have known about it?
Unbelievable.
Expect a record low turnout this time.
However, KnoxViews did report the forum time and place today and Steve did a great job above live blogging. Apparently the daily paper does not have that technology. Tell us Steve, how do you do it?
Is this why so few people read the Knoxville News Sentinel? I think so.
But it is so nice of Georgiana Vines to report the story no one knew about after it doesn't matter. Nice work Georgiana.
One other thing, it could have been televised. But Steve didn't have the equipment. I guess we need to pass the hat and buy Steve some cameras.
Because clearly CTV and/or the stupid daily paper couldn't ever televise something this important.
I guess they think people will flip a coin or something. Or trust them to make the decisions for us. The more likely outcome is people will forget there is an election.
So what do you think? Will the county election top 18% of registered voters? Put up a poll R. Neal.
All it took was an iPhone...
.. and some doggone fast fingers.
Paone is the camera expert, that streaming stuff gets pretty hard, actually.

Both those stories were about early voting and the primary beginning. They were NOT about the debate.
Well that's okay. Informed people don't need the daily paper. We wouldn't want you to pull a muscle or something.
I mean why would you have it on the front page on Friday? That was just the day of the debate, er forum. There were so many more important stories like the little tiff that Maize had? Heaven knows that was so crucial in the election process.
And people wonder why so few vote.
This is a fair synopsis of
This is a fair synopsis of what happened. However, I do not understand why the continuing criticism of the type of vehicle Reverend Maize drives has anything to do with his qualifications or his reasons for seeking this office. I do not see any mention here of one GOP candidate's ability to borrow $2 million for a business that is now defunct. Also, the question posed to all 4 candidates about their strongest accomplishment, the best response was Rev. Maize who talked about his pride and personal joy in serving as a Pastor for over 18 years, his leadership in helping and mentoring his church families.
And I did get the feeling from the GOP answers that, yes, the network of the 'good ole boys' is still alive; guess that is why they were NOT asked what they thought of Nepotism in government! And while none of the candidates mentioned the elephant in the room of the worst air quality here, caused by coal fired and nuke power plants,(he did mention his son and many children here with asthma), Rev. Maize did stress his interest in green energy AND boosting use of solar power...with new businesses here that can be a source for this cheaper, cleaner environmental power.
Yes, Steve, excellent job!
Yes, Steve, excellent job! Thanks.
West High School primary County Mayoral forum
The use of the word debate is not appropriate for what was hosted at West High School last night. It was a forum not a debate. A question and answer session is not a debate. I attended and I saw no answers from any candidate that had much substance, just watered down answers with pandering and telling voters what they want to hear. Is no one of the candidates for Mayor of Knox County prepared to engage in real debate that most voters say they want to hear?
None of the four of these candidates are qualified to be the county mayor. I doubt any of them know the 14 duties of the mayor that is spelled out in the Knox County Charter. Ten of the fourteen duties of the Mayor are in the financial area.
Of the six who have submitted petitions to run for Knox County Mayor, here is the only qualified candidate with a business background and the institutional knowledge of fund accounting, capable of doing the job. From knoxvillechamber.com

Note that Cosby's responses are very detailed....
good job
Steve, you did a good job with the live blogging. It sure was hot in the room, and I definitely do not mean the boring candidates.
The difference in the answers to the Chamber’s questions is that Cosby wrote his own answers and Burchett had Dean Rice and a PR staff writes his.
Burchett spoke at Bruce Pearl’s birthday party the other day and really showed what a true “goofball” he is. It was truly embarrassing; especially for those who support him just because he is the Republican’s hand picked choice. He is no golden boy.
goofball
From the comments I've heard this week (from those who attended) about the event at Anders farm last week, they too were embarrassed. Dean Rice is probably smart in keeping him away from the cameras and the general public. bruce
A forum is just not a debate
Were voters less informed before the internet? With local news stories available online almost instantly, do voters have a tool to become more educated on the issues as well as the personalities of people in political office or seeking a position in local government? The days of politicians debating face to face, with people seeking office personally explaining their positions on issues has turned into forums with pre-arranged questions and answers, with candidates groomed by PR firms and financed by PACS and big business interests. How can a voter learn who a candidate is and how he would represent the public?
It looks as if we have lost the interest of the local community when it comes to voting for the best candidate to hold office. There must be a better way of selecting qualified people to serve in public office. After years of very low voter turnout in Knox County Elections, there was an upturn after the Black Wednesday incident. Now we seem to be heading back to the past with lower voter turnout. People tend to just vote along party lines and don’t take the time to vet the candidates.
Is there anything that can be done to engage the public in the local County elections? Would a live debate with questions from the public stimulate the voters to become more involved with the voting process? Would voters being more informed make the more qualified candidates win the elections? The whole process appears to have become predetermined by partisan politics and the voters appear to just accept that fact.
An Independent Candidate for County Mayor has other less than equal issues with the election process in Knox County. Independent candidates for the most part are not invited to participate in candidate forums as these forums are segregated between Democrats and Republicans. In fact, it is worse than that. The Democratic candidates for County Mayor are not allowed to debate with the Republican candidates for Mayor before the Primary vote. Let’s think about this. A person who wants to understand what the Mayoral candidates stand for has to watch two separate candidate forums and try to remember what the candidates said. These forums are sometimes several weeks apart. How does that help the voters to understand the positions of the candidates? How does that encourage voter participation? Why not have all six County Mayoral candidates on one stage at one time with a moderator, and let the candidates each answer questions from the audience. How can there be an election for the chief fiscal officer of Knox County without having a public debate to let the voters see who the candidates are and hear their positions on issues? A forum is just not a debate. Segregating the political parties to different times to address the audience and answer questions skews the discussion and is too much of a controlled atmosphere.
On Tennessee This Week with Gene Patterson last Sunday the 11th we saw County Mayoral candidate Ezra Maize inform the public that the KCEA, the Knox County Teacher’s Union, allowed special privileges for one County Mayoral Candidate. The Teacher’s Union explained that the Mayoral candidates had to show up in person for the Teacher’s Union interview so they could select their endorsement for County Mayor. Except for Senator Tim Burchett. We were informed that the KCEA would interview Mr. Burchett in Nashville with their lobbyists. What makes Senator Burchett so special? Why was an exception made for him?
The Knoxville Chamber invited the candidates to a debate they were going to host. Several weeks later Garrett Wagley, Director of Communications & Government Relations for the Knoxville Chamber said there was a scheduling and logistics issue and so they were canceling the debate. Candidates other than Mr. Burchett were prepared to attend. Should an election revolve around any one candidate? If one of the other candidates had a scheduling issue, the other candidates could still debate, even with one empty chair. How can the public learn whether a Mayoral Candidate has what it takes negotiate county business if they do not see him face his opponents in public debate?
We should improve the interface between the candidates and the voters by having inclusive Mayoral debates with all candidates before the Primary vote. Why segregate these candidate forums and waste the voter’s time? It is much easier to remember what was said when all of the candidates are there in one place at the same time. Let each candidate for County Mayor answer the same question and give the voters some real information.
There are reasons why people don’t vote. Moreover, we should think outside the box to find ways to improve voter participation. We should look back to the past, before 24 hour news and the internet became the voter’s information source. A good old fashioned debate would be a good way to spark the interest of the voting public.
I suggest a candidate debate at the Knoxville Convention Center with all of the County Mayoral Candidates. Have it televised on local television. Have a good moderator like Gene Patterson and have the questions written down on cards as the public walks in. Let’s spend some time and give the people what they need. Real information.
Let’s encourage our voters to be part of this crucial representative process. We must find new and better ways to involve the community in their government.

Best idea in a very long time. People don't vote because they don't have real information. It is unbelievable that when Ragsdale was Mayor the forum was at the Knoxville Convention Center and was televised.
Last night was a failure. There were small local bands that drew more than 150 people last night.
Bottom line
Nine, did you attend the forum at West? If so, good for you. If not, then your complaints about low turnout ring hollow.

That's a good idea. Now why don't you organize it, pay for it, get the candidates to agree to it, and conduct it? Seriously, I don't know if you've ever put one of these things together. I have. Even a small one, for one city council seat, takes a huge amount of effort to be successful.
It's not as easy as saying "ok, somebody should do this."

Do you know how CTV works? They have to get paid by somebody. Commission meetings, council meetings, etc. are on because the local govts have a contract with CTV to carry them.
I'm not making excuses. I'm simply saying that putting together one of these requires a lot of work.

OK
One would think that a public debate with candidates for the CFO of Knox County is something the Chamber would do. Or KNS, or one of the TV stations. Maybe they will.
The Cosby campaign for county mayor will start right after the primary. Cosby plans a public debate at Rothchild Catering and Conference Center. Not a forum, a debate.
A private group of local businessmen has discussed sponsoring another debate at the Expo Center. Plans are to have the debates filmed and post them on the internet.
Cosby plans a public debate

Have the other candidates agreed to this? Cause you can't debate yourself.
Look, I think these events are important, or I wouldn't have worked over the last few years to help put on quite a few of them. The more, the better as far as the public is concerned. I'm just saying they ain't that easy to make happen.
P.S. I should also add the the South Knoxville Neighborhood and Business Coalition is planning to conduct a Mayoral forum this July. It will include questions written down by folks from the audience. We have a date, and Gene Patterson has agreed to moderate for us.
BUT... we can't ask the candidates until we know who they are, and there's always a possibility they will refuse or have conflicts.
.
"Have the other candidates agreed to this? Cause you can't debate yourself."
I'll help translate this for the new people. Burchett doesn't need to have any debates/forums in the General Election because he's already won. He will be too busy in Nashville doing the "people's work".
Rice is giving Burchett some strange advice. Low turn out elections favor incumbents. Tim B. isn't the incumbent Mayor. A low turn out election may favor Tim Hutchison. Does Burchett have county wide name recognition? Hutchison does. But Hutchison has higher negatives than Burchett. Tough call.
I've heard the theory that Burchett loses voters when he speaks. That he topped out before Hutchison announce and he hurts himself by speaking. His dodging debate/forums does tend to give credence to that theory.
Cosby should dog Burchett until he drops if Burchett ducks a debate. And it should be a debate. Not these mamby pamby forums. We need to see if Burchett can handle a tough question without having an anxiety attack.
No question between Cosby and Burchett who is more persistent. Cosby has shown with Ragsdale and the County Budget a determination that is impressive.
Of the three top candidates, Cosby has the lowest negatives. A quick look at the three websites shows that Burchett has the least specific issues. As in almost non-existent. Will people see this as a beauty pageant? That is the campaign Burchett is running. Low on specifics and squishy on issues Burchett is running on "I'm not Hutch".
In a low turnout election that may not cut it.

Your original question was "Does Burchett have countywide name recognition?" As usual, you're changing the subject.
The answer is "why yes, he does."
I'm not implying that will necessarily win him the election. I'm just answering your question.
We'll see how well Burchett plays east, south, and north. One part of the county you left completely out is inside the city limits, where Burchett will play very, very, very well.
Of course Cosby has the
Of course Cosby has the lowest negatives.
He also has the lowest name recognition, by far.
Regardless of what you prefer to think, those who frequent the KNS website are a miniscule minority of the electorate (assuming all of them vote).
I expect that a large number of Hutchison voters will shift to Cosby in the general, if their guy doesn't prevail. And we'll be in for a hard two weeks of desperate rumormongering in the meantime.
Bbeanster
“Of course Cosby has the lowest negatives.”
I am glad to hear you think Cosby is the best candidate and your support is appreciated.
Most of the candidates simply have no positives at all.
.
"Of course Cosby has the lowest negatives.
He also has the lowest name recognition, by far."
Is Cosby not third in name recognition? A quick Google shows him far ahead of either Maize or McBath.
You may be overlooking cross voting to some extent. Cosby probably fares better against Hutchison in the General race. Independent reform candidate against the court house crowd. That is a solid match up.
But on the other hand, if Maize and McBath have poor numbers, how does Burchett carry the county if the Dem's and Hutch voters go for Cosby? Burchett can't make up the difference.
So the answer is simple. Burchett is the stealth Dem candidate. Which is what Maize alleged without naming names. But this could backfire if Burchett ducks a debate with Cosby. For Burchett to win he has to take Cosby head on and have a decisive win.
But can Burchett? How does Burchett debate a man who audited Knox County government, TVA, and created three television stations? "Well Mr. Cosby back when I ran the mulch yard..."
these events are important

It seems to me Mr. Cosby's name recognition is in need of improvement. In listening to the last debate I was caught by surprise by the former Sheriff describing the chief of staff he would hire, and perhaps it was meant to be a compliment to Mr. Cosby, but the qualifications seemed to be tailored to Mr. Cosby. Did anyone else have that feeling or notice it? I suppose I wouldn't have thought much about it had not Mr. Cosby been sitting in the audience with several of the former Sheriff's former employees.
Mr. Cosby seems to be planning several debates and I think Rachel is entirely right; such events need to be planned and carefully so. I am also sure it takes a lot of effort to successfully plan such an event. The respective candidates must agree and the voters must have selected the candidate during the primaries.
Nine, did I overlook your
Nine, did I overlook your response to Barker's question about whether you were at Friday's forum? I didn't see you there.
You are arguing at cross purposes. First you say that Burchett is supported by Democrats. Then you predict that come August, Democrats will flock to Cosby, a Republican running as an Independent.
If Hutchison polls Scooby Moore/Lee Tramel numbers, there aren't going to be enough disgruntled Hutchisonites to swing a flyswatter, let alone an election.
Mr. Cosby's placing third in name recognition is hardly anything to crow about, given the relative obscurity of the rest of the field – although I suspect that the Rev. Maize's recent publicity offensive may have vaulted him ahead of Mr. Cosby for now.
I don't believe Google hits are the most accurate measurement of the opinions of likely voters, and I don't think you do, either
And of course the good Reverend is being shined on by Hutchison supporters who are suggesting that they will support him in the General Election, which is about as likely as me running the Boston Marathon.
It appears that your side has decided that the best you've got is vicious rumors about Tim Burchett and his family, and to date the media have turned their collective noses up at this spew.
.
"First you say that Burchett is supported by Democrats."
No, you misunderstand. Burchett is supported by the machine Democrats. Not rank and file. I don't think Joe Democrat has decided.
And that is why Burchett ducking debate/forums is probably smart. Because every time he speaks he loses votes. I think Rice is playing it smart in the short term. The long term mileage may vary.
Oh, I forgot about the "forum". It would have be nice if the media had not buried it in dumb stories I didn't read.
Did I miss anything? Seriously, did Burchett say anything of substance? If I want corn-pone humor I can watch repeats of HeeHaw. Why so many people give him a pass is beyond me. Remember the last time we gave the candidate for County Mayor a pass? How did that work out?
I don't speak for all Democrats...
... but the pulse I get is that Hutchison is the most offensive of them all, so some (many?) will crossover vote in the primary for Burchett.
The general election? They're not thinking that far ahead. I think Dems don't know enough about Cosby. Some will consider him a stronger administrator, or perceive him as less likely to consider the mayor's office as a 'stepping stone' to the next big thing and vote Cosby. Some will see Cosby as harder right in his politics and see Burchett as more moderate in thought and deed and vote Burchett. Many will stick to party loyalty and vote for the winner of the Democratic primary just to preserve the numbers and the appearance of the party. In this scenario, it's more up to the Republicans what happens.
Assuming Burchett wins the primary that is. If Hutchison wins, I can see a lot more Dems throwing 'appearances' to the wind and voting Cosby (and pushing other Dems to follow suit) to keep Hutchison out.
Steve,
Cosby is very conservative in his fiscal views but is moderate as it gets in his political views. He is like many of us that called ourselves Republican’s over the years, but would cross over party lines to vote for a better candidate. Voting straight party lines is what has us electing the quality of public officials in office now. Partisan politics is counterproductive to quality leadership in government. Many Democrats have been among those who encouraged Cosby to run for County Mayor. They see his management abilities and institutional knowledge of fund accounting as more important than party affiliation.
Cosby has no ambition to be a politician, but desires to reform the office of Mayor of Knox County and put us on a better path financially. He wants to put reforms in place so that the Mayors that follow him will have a path to follow that benefits the citizens of Knox County and not political cronies, family members and campaign donors. Partisan politics encourages cronyism in Government. He wants to set an example for other county officials and raise the standard in government.
I don't disagree!
.. I was just speaking to perceptions I've heard on the street. I think Cosby will need to become better known in the General, and beyond just his auditor credentials. Who is he and what does he believe in? Some Dems would say today they would be more comfortable with Burchett because they know what he stands for and it's tolerable (and there's a few attaboys for some of his legislative history), which puts him today ahead of someone whose political philosophy is unknown.
I also agree that partisan politics are destructive at the local level. I was VERY dismayed when I learned that the 'rewrite' of Charter Amendment #2 took out the 'non-partisan' elections clause. I was willing to trade fewer commissioners to have non-partisan election, but when they took that out, they lost me.
.
"I was VERY dismayed when I learned that the 'rewrite' of Charter Amendment #2 took out the 'non-partisan' elections clause. I was willing to trade fewer commissioners to have non-partisan election, but when they took that out, they lost me."
You mean Charter Amendment 3. Charter Amendment 2 was about the Charter Review Committee.
It is Charter Amendment 3 that is in Chancellors Weavers court now.
'non-partisan' elections clause
The whole Charter Amendment process lost me. Good ideas, but bad form and application.
Cosby started 3 local TV stations, managed and built them up, and then marketed them. He is knowledgeable about how media works, and after the primary will start his campaign. You should call him; his cell phone is on his web site on the information page. His campaign will be all volunteers and no hired gun PR firms.
.
"... but the pulse I get is that Hutchison is the most offensive of them all, so some (many?) will crossover vote in the primary for Burchett."
Any Dem who wants Cosby for Mayor should vote for Hutchison in the Primary. The math is simple. That's not to say that Cosby couldn't defeat Burchett in the General, but beating Hutchison is much easier.
The big question is who will serve Dem's better Cosby or Burchett?
That's easy. Which of the two of them can fix Knox County's budget? The answer is Cosby.
What does Burchett offer Dem's? I don't see it. He has no issues. All Burchett is running on is that he isn't Hutch. That won't cut it.
What Steve said.
What Steve said. Shurf Tim is repugnant enough to many Ds (and I suspect not a few Rs) that keeping him out of the Mayor's seat is more important than whether Burchett or Cosby wind up in it.
So you didn't attend? It
So you didn't attend?
It would be nice to get a straight answer out of you for once.
"Government doesn't create jobs."
From the mouth of a part time citizen legislator that has managed to turn the position into a full time job.
Is that the first time you have listened to Burchett? Great thoughts such as his job creation theory flow from his mouth continually.
You would like Cosby; he has technical abilities where the other candidates would be lost in space. He should be invited for a private question and answer on a Wednesday go to meeting night. I can guarantee he would attend and you would find him interesting.
Rap Video
McBath’s Mayoral Rap song is on his Facebook page and the accompanying video he has been working on may be out this weekend.
I'm interested in hearing
I'm interested in hearing about Cosby beyond his financial capabilities.
For example, how would he implement the joint City/County Task Force recommendations on Hillsides and Ridgetops?
What kind of qualifications would he look for in MPC appointees?
What, if anything, does he plan to do about the ongoing stormwater problem in Knox County?
Etc.
It's time somebody said this out loud-
Bruce Williams, for someone with a wife who is running for office, you are behaving in an alarmingly reckless fashion. I feel sorry for Lillian, from whom I bought several pieces of art and who seems to be a perfectly nice woman. She'd probably have a good chance of getting elected if not for you.
"Will Burchett play in North,
We'll find out in two weeks and two days.
Where is North? South of
Bwahahaha!
That's a good 'un, Nine. Everything south of I-640 at the Broadway interchange down to Henley Street is North Knoxville, and is represented by Burchett, which you of course already knew, dincha?
.
Bean, this race is for County Mayor. I know, the people in the city are in the county. But county people see it different. After annexation they see it very different. I guess you don't comprehend county realpolitik. Burchett is West Knox. He ain't Mark Harmon.
Burchett is West Knox. He
Burchett is West Knox. He ain't Mark Harmon.
And he ain't Tim Hutchison, which is all most people inside the city limits need to know.
I guess you don't comprehend county realpolitik.
Did you really just say that to BEAN?
Nine's living the dream,
Nine's living the dream, Rachel. And he was actually real nice and polite to Burchett when he called in to the George Korda Show today.
We will soon know
We will soon know and my own guess is Senator Burchett will carry the city and county. And not by a little bit either and I'm sure the rhetoric will have to be changed, but the election returns will certainly answer that question.
Chamber Questionaire
Once again the good ole boys club - did anyone think to ask the Candidates if they received the Chambers Questionaire? The Maize Camp did not. It is interesting to note which two obviously DID receive it. Hmmmmmm
Sounds like this primary
Sounds like this primary might be between the voters living within the city limits and the voters living outside the city limits. Is that possible? Anyone have any stats on voter counts for previous primaries like this one (e.g. how many voters live in the city limits, outside the city limits, how did they vote)?
2002 Republican County primary
Hutchison's biggest margins were in Gibbs,Halls,Karns,Powell & Farragut.
Hutchison won those wards, combined,by about 1300 votes.
The city went marginally for JJ except in Sequoyah Hills where JJ won 303-194.Fort Sanders voted JJ-19 Hutchison-1.
Also,in East Knoxville,1022 voted in the county Democratic Primary.153 in the county Republican Primary.
One key difference between 2002 & 2010.Contested Democratic Primary for county Commission.BTW,Tank won.
Remember,at that time,we could not separate early vote per ward.Futhermore, this total does not include early vote.
Hutchison-11,576
JJ-9,116
Knoxville News-Sentinal May 8,2002.
Hutchison has never done well
Hutchison has never done well in the city, historically speaking. City returns come in first on election night, giving his opponents a little bump and a lot of false hope. I recall that Jim Andrews had a pretty good lead until Halls, Powell and Farragut came rolling in with big Hutchison margins.
Last election, Hutch was not on the ballot, but I remember being told by number crunching friends that some of his worst wards were traditionally in the 4th District, particularly Bearden and Rocky Hill, and sure enough, his surrogate Lee Tramel got trounced there.
His attitude this time around reflects that divide, particularly on the issue of homelessness. He pretty much says he's for keeping the Mission District. There is little down side in that position, politically, since the 2nd District won't go for him anyhow.
Hutchison is generally popular in areas that were served exclusively by his department, and that stands to reason because he was a pretty good sheriff, law enforcement-wise. He was also a champion of the anti-annexation, anti-metro people, which served him well at the ballot box. It was when he tried to expand his power as a political boss that he got in trouble, and he did that more and more over the years.
It's humorous to hear him painting himself as a practitioner of transparency, criticizing the wheel tax and promising to open the CCB parking garage. These were not his positions or practices when he was in office.
This is the numbers per the N-S
Don't forget this is a Republican Primary not a general election.
2002 Republican Primary:
Belle Morris:
JJ-110
Hutch-104
Lincoln Park:
JJ-49
Hutch-37
Bearden Elementary:
JJ-99
Hutch-84
Rocky Hill:
Hutch-309
JJ-288
However, that was then & this is now.
And alot of water's gone under the bridge since then.
Hutch v JJ doesn't mean
Hutch v JJ doesn't mean anything.
Except for his brief falling out with his mentor that led to his running against him that year, JJ is largely a Hutchison creation, Burchett is not. And I don't think you can draw any real conclusions from that primary spat.
I'm not sure what point you are making.
I'm not sure history means a
I'm not sure history means a great deal in this race. Yes, Burchett will do exremely well inside the City. I know people who are bothering to vote specifically because they want to vote against Hutchison.
Hutchison will do better in the county, but I don't look for him to do nearly as well as he's done in the past. There's been too much crap go down the last few years, and he's too connected with it.
I'm not predicting the outcome, just saying that to some extent I think we have a new ballgame here.
BTW, I think Hutchison was good at law enforcement. It's every thing else about him that makes me positive he would be a disaster as county mayor.
One example, a subject we've discussed on here, and one close to me - what kind of MPC appts do you think Hutchison would make?
Just raw numbers
Bizgrrl ask if anybody had any returns from past elections.
I had been looking over some numbers from the 2002 county Republican primary. It was a contested county Republican primary. And Hutchinson was running vs JJ.
According to the N-S returns from 2002 Republican Primary.
I was suprised by the results.
In the 4th district,Bearden Elem,Bearden High,Bearden Middle(45),Deane Hill Rec & West Hills were all very,very close.
And as posted Hutch won Rocky Hill.
Plus I was also suprised how close Belle Morris & Lincoln Park were.
That was 8 years ago & alot has happened.Comparing the returns of the 2002 Primary to what might happen this time could well be a apples & oranges deal.
But these are raw numbers, from the only recent primary, that Hutch had opposition.
And do reflect a difference between Hutch's historical general election vote & his historical primary vote.
Again could be apples & oranges..but numbers crunchers can only crunch the numbers they have.
And the 2002 Republican primary is the only numbers we have on Hutch.
Burchett's never run in a Republican county primary.
Just state primaries.
And there is a bit of a difference.
