Communities around the country are vying to be chosen by Google for one of the test locations for the new ultra-high-speed internet.

Topeka, KS, has temporarily renamed itself Google, KS.

The mayor of Duluth, MN, jumped in the frigid waters of Lake Superior to attract Google's attention. In addition, he pledged that every firstborn child in the city would henceforth be named "Google Fiber" or "Googlette Fiber."

Sarasota, FL, is expected to temporarily rename its City Island "Google Island."

Orlando, FL, is working hard on a web-site, getgoogling.com, with videos, comments, artwork and general begging posted by residents and businesses.

Knoxville is jumping on the bandwagon. What should Mayor Haslam do to attract Google?

Haslam should enlist the help of Al Gore. His dad invented the interstate.

In addition to Eric's great idea:

• Free wi-fi at all Pilot gas/beer/cig/lotto/Google outlets

• Lots of Google ads on the city's website

• Rename Sunsphere as Googlesphere

• Convince Tomato Head to change their name to Google Head

• Create a committee to study the idea, appoint enemies to the committee, hire some consultants to advise the committee, hold an exhausting series of public meetings to sit through presentations from consultants until nobody cares any more, instruct committee to make a pre-determined recommendation to City Council

• Offer Google TIFs and free rent at empty Convention Center to setup a Southeast server farm, throw in free solar panels

• Offer Google employees running the Convention Center server farm free room service at the new Convention Center hotel

• Drop out of the governor's race and devote full time to the Google campaign

Ok, call me a luddite (google

Ok, call me a luddite (google the term if not familiar), but not sure this is a good thing. I guess we can all twitter just a little bit faster. I have too much information delivered too fast already, just like the 500 cable TV channels I have and not much to watch on them.
