Yesterday we went back to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and walked the Scrub Ridge trail. It's about a mile long walk through Florida Scrub Jay habitat. We didn't see one living thing.

When we got back to the parking lot we saw a dirt service road going off in the other direction. A few hundred yards down that road we encountered a family of five Florida Scrub Jays. They are quite handsome and friendly.

Next we went back over to the Black Point drive. Fortunately there were no wrecks. Conditions weren't optimal (cold, windy, and cloudy) but we saw lots of birds. I lost count of how many species.

Today we're going back to stalk a beautiful reddish egret we spotted yesterday. We may also walk the Hammock Trail in hopes of spotting a bobcat.
