Once again, the jolly ole elf knew what I wanted.

Santa Clause brought me Ted Kennedy's memoir,"True Compass",for Christmas.

From Kennedy's maternal grandfather..

"Honey Fitz",born 9 months before Lincoln
delivered the Gettysburg Address..

Thru Barrack Obama, born 5 months after
Kennedy's brother became president..

"True Compass" captures American history as
Ted Kennedy lived it.

"True Compass" is a really, really good book!

Agreed, Bill. I got 2 "asked for" books -- True Compass and the new bio of Ayn Rand. Surprisingly, it's the Kennedy book that I'm halfway through.

Teddy's story is truly one of "catching up." I think he made it. --s .

Was in the Fountain City

Was in the Fountain City Kroger book section today and thanks to reading your review, it occurred to me that I might pick this book up there.
But Nooooo--
I found three Sarah Palin books (all fan books) plus three Glenn Beck books (including his Christmas story) and a bunch of those Left Behind things. There were also several copies of Carrie Prejean's book about how evil non-Christian liberals made it impossible for her to complete her Miss California duties and forced her to pose naked those three times.
Guess that's what I get for wanting to buy a book at Kroger.

What I discovered

Until I posted "True Compass" it had not dawned on me the vastness of Ted Kennedy's life.

I googled "Honey Fitz" & discovered he was born Feb.11,1863.
President Obama was elected to serve until Jan.20,2013.

Think about it.

Ted Kennedy learned the grit & grind & joy of politics from
from a fellow born in the mid 19th century & applied those principals to a fellow that will serve till the 2nd decade
of the 21st century.

I enjoyed the section..On My Own..the best..the pictures
were of the Ted Kennedy,as flawed as he was,the pictures were of the Ted Kennedy,I supported for president. From the summer of '68 till Kennedy decided not to run in '84..the late fall of '82.

Two stories.

1.In the summer of '68 I lived in Athens,Ga.Sometime,around
late July, bumper stickers started popping up all over Athens.

drafTED!

It was not out of the question that Kennedy would have won the '68 nomination for president over HHH..but it would have been tough.

I do believe a HHH-Kennedy ticket would have won.

2.In the late spring..early summer? of '82 Bill Nolan had decided to run for the state house seat he had lost to Republican,Jim Hudson,in '80.

I had met Bill Nolan during his '80 campaign for re-election & he knew I was
a supporter of Kennedy in '84.

During the campaign for the Democratic nomination vs Pete
Drew(we didn't win it)..Nolan & I were out stumping & Nolan said..I'm going,big time,for Kennedy in '84.

I believe Kennedy would have won the '84 Democratic nomination.
But Reagan would have beat Kennedy pretty good in the general.

Oh well..I'm rambling..time to stop.
