My neighbor Leon and I drove to Cookeville yesterday and picked up Lulu.

Lulu was abandoned by her family last summer.  Neighbors complained and animal control captured her where she was holed up in a crawl space.  The shelter in the little town where she lived apparently does not try to place Rottweilers or pit bulls, they just kill them.  A staff member felt sorry for her and called Southern States Rescued Rottweilers.  She was estimated to be between 18 to 24 months old so her birthday is now officially 7/20/07.  She came to Susan's home in Clarksville where she lived with two other Rotties and a couple of Dachshunds as well as cats and a bird.

She was diagnosed heartworm positive but otherwise healthy, so healthy she actually gained two pounds during her treatment, a procedure that many dogs do not survive.  Now she is in excellent health. She had her first trip to a groomer last Thursday for a bath and pedicure and now she smells like a dryer sheet.

Her records show that her expenses were more than SSRRs tax-deductible adoption fee.  I can't say enough about this wonderful organization or about Susan's loving care for my little girl.

She is incredibly timid, she acts as though she expects a beating with any loud sound or sudden movement.  We are making good progress though.  Last night she actually ate her dinner and this morning she went out to the back yard (in a misty rain) to potty.

She won't accept hugs as yet but we will work on that.

She has a budding Flickr collection here.

Wunnerful, wunnerful!

Aw, what a cute couple :-)

This story is kinda like a reverse "Black Beauty," you know?  Unlike the other "Beauty," Lulu's later years are sure to be her best ones!

Congrats to you both (and thanks, Leon, for making that jaunt with Kenny).

We just returned from our first stroll at Ashe Park.  We walked about 3/4 mile and she's beautiful on a leash.  I hardly knew I had a 91 pound dog.

Lulu's foster mom forwarded

Lulu's foster mom forwarded a big box of goodies from her SSRR 'Secret Santa'.  There must be $50 worth of toys, treats, and two beautiful stainless steel dishes in the box and she loves them all.  I just heard a loud rip from this plush funky chicken toy.
