Ummmm

I know Gus's was there for a very long time and that people have wonderful memories about the place, but sometimes it is time to call it a day and renovate.

I think this is probably the very right thing to do.

Gus's was on Gay Street a lot longer than it was on Mkt Sq. I live downtownish, and I never set foot in either location in 15 years here.

I worked at TVA for 14 years, and never set foot in Gus's either.  I have no fond memories of it.  But if HZC thinks the building is too far gone to save it, they're probably right.

I AM concerned that as much of the building as possible be saved, and that new construction be done in a way that's sensitive to the Market Square environment.  I haven't read the design guidelines for the MS H-1 overlay, but I assume they will take care of that.

Not that this post really

Not that this post really has anything to do with Gus's.

I've been to Gus's on both Gay Street and Market Square. Never been to the S&W (old or new), never been to the Mkt Sq Tomato Head, never been to any of the restaurants on Market Square except the breakfast/lunch place on the corner.

Gold Sun I tell you.

From at least the early '60s and until I left Knoxville in '73 the restaurant on the northwest corner of Market Square was the Gold Sun. I ate there frequently because of the country ham and red eye gravy. It was the best I ever had. I don't know how long before or after but I am sure it was there then.

You can see the old "Gold Sun" (just walked past it) window because of the demolition.
