Online application for unemployment extensions will be available on the Tennessee Department of Labor’s website starting December 11, and the first benefit payments are expected to be mailed December 18, 2009.

The online application will be necessary for claimants who have exhausted all prior benefits. Additionally, those who exhausted benefits prior to the February 27, 2009 deadline for State Extended Benefits may also be eligible and are encouraged to apply.

According to Labor Commissioner James Neeley, those who have already exhausted their benefits will receive instructions by mail this week.

According to state officials, Tennesseans who exhaust their benefits after December 17, 2009 will automatically transition into the new program without having to reapply.

The Department of Labor and Workforce Development has posted more details about the extension at their website. Information is also available at Career Centers across the state. For more information call 1-800-576-3467.
