I'm giving the 2009 "What the Heck is Really Going On?" Journalism Award to Carrie Brown. There's very little if anything I could tell you about the deals being crafted right now that she hasn't covered (somewhere there's a rolling list of amendments as they are submitted, but only 4 were brought up 4 consideration yesterday, anyway).

She is an example of what AP hacks (who we can almost replace with a computer program) read before they turn the information into a 3rd grade watercolor to show the masses.

**Chicken/egg quandary in the Medicare basket: "Imagine living in a house with a crumbling foundation and trying to repair it by adding more bedrooms." That's a cute thing to say to a reporter, but it's an attitude that neglects the fact that doing both is entirely possible and necessary.

The next move depends on the CBO scoring of the current Medicare buy-in proposal which should come early this week. Similar legislation from last year did not pass the budget test.
