Alcoa and Maryville return once again to the state football championships.

The five-time defending champion Alcoa High Tornadoes face challenger Milan for the Division 1 3A championship at 3:30PM CT tomorrow in Cookville. This is a rematch of last year's championship which Alcoa won. Both teams are 14-0.

The Maryville High Rebels (13-1) move up to 6A this year and will square off in the Big Game with White Station (12-2) for the championship. The game is Saturday at 7PM CT. Maryville's only defeat this year came at the hands of rival Alcoa in their season opener.

In addition to great football teams, Alcoa and Maryville high schools are both highly regarded academically. Both get straight A's on TCAP writing achievement, both are above the state averages for NCLB proficient and advanced yearly progress, both have higher than state average ACT scores, and both boast high graduation rates (93% for Maryville and 96% for Alcoa).

Webb School of Knoxville (11-1) plays the Univ. School of Jackson (11-1) today at 3:30PM for the Division 2 Class A championship. Webb's academic record isn't too shabby, either.

UPDATE: Webb School shut out the Univ. School of Jackson 30-0. Congratulations to the new Division 2 Class A Champion Webb Spartans on their fourth state title.

UPDATE: Alcoa defeated Milan 21-0 to win their sixth straight Division 1 3A state championship. Congratulations to the Alcoa High Tornadoes.

One more win by Maryville tonight for an East TN trifecta...

UPDATE: Maryville falls to the White Station Spartans 37 to 27. Congratulations to Maryville on a great season and for making it to the state championship game.

Go Maryville AND Alcoa!

I went to the last two Maryville playoff games against Farragut and Riverdale. They are firing on all cylinders at the right time.

Alcoa is as dominant as ever.
