The bill carries the friendly moniker of COPE ( Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement Act of 2006).

Industry calls it a bill "to make cable TV more competitive."

Grassroots organizations call it a bill which would entirely cede control of the Internet to private interests.

Industry wins.

Bipartisanship (n): The spirit of American political connivance between government and industry which dis-empowers the electorate.

Figures...

Wamp, Blackburn, Jenkins...all Republican Scum so that doesn't surprise me.

It's backstabbing bastards like Davis, Cooper, and yet another jackass named Ford that I can't understand. Dems that consistantly betray their base with votes like this are far more dangerous than any average Repiglikan. These Judases must be made to suffer at the Polls for their constant treachery.

Not true, actually

They all voted for COPE itself, but Cooper, Ford and Gordon all also voted for Net Neutrality (the Markey amendment).

Anyone have any idea how this is going to go in the Senate? I know it's a big, fat waste of time to call Frist, but I'm going to call Alexander. I don't think they actually have a bill yet.

Apparently there's more bipartisan support in the Senate for Neutrality. Do we have any hope at all? Snowe and Dorgan have already introduced a Neutrality bill called something like "Preserve Internet Freedom."
