Update: Betty McCollum: Hot or Not?

We have heard the stories of abuse and possible illegal activities by ACORN for some time now. As Chairman of the Tennessee Republican Party, I made sure we monitored ACORN activity in Tennessee in 2008, so we have been aware of the problems they pose for over a year. So it is unacceptable that our government had to be shamed by kids with hidden cameras into taking action against this group. Finally, after videos surfaced showing ACORN employees engaging in illegal activities, we got a small token gesture by the Congress to strip the group of funding. But Rep. Bauchmann is right - two votes on two bills does not begin to adequately address the issue. Your tax dollars should never be used to influence elections and as a member of Congress I will work to make sure ACORN and its network of front groups are cut from the federal budget.

For now it falls to our president, who seems to lack the political will to act, to deal with this issue. I hope he will stand up to his allies in ACORN and do the right thing.

YES!!!! Please make sure this bill gets signed as is so we can use it to go after defense contractors!!! I hope, of course, you're not supporting it as a bill of attainder as your language above sounds. You might want to clean that up and brush up on that Constitution you were bragging about over there on Twitter.

Robin Smith faces challenger Paula Flowers in 2010 in the 3rd district.

Thanks Robin

robints Subsidizing criminal activity is wrong. ACORN should face more than a loss of funding. (link...) Constitutional govt? #sgp #tcot

EricLykins @robints You are right, add most defense contractors to that list also. (link...)

robints Had tweeter comparing ACORN to defense contractors re:Constitionality. Some obviously don't view nat'l defense as fxn of govt.Hmm #sgp #tcot

and: Defense of ACORN via "Bill of attainder".So, what about Chrysler investors, salaries of CEOs under attack? Straw argument fails. #sgp #tcot

EricLykins @robints If you can't explain the non-punitive regulatory purpose of the ACORN bill, you can't explain it's Constitutionality. Givr nothr go

Could any lawyers in the room tell me if I'm wrong and making an ass out of myself? Is the Congressional Research Service out of line also? Why is she talking to me and is this conversation going to mean any trouble for anybody??

why this matters: (link...)
Fox even gets it: (link...)
how to fix it: (link...) (ATTENTION Jim Cooper and John Duncan on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee: Do my bidding, er, the right thing!)
what's actually going to happen: (link...)

To be accurate...

These two candidates do not face each other...at least not yet.

Both are in primary races. They have to win those before the face each other, and both primaries are contested.

Presumptive?

I also apologize for referring to Robin Smith as Congressman above, but instead of editing I will just say that I get her so confused with Marsha Blackburn sometimes. Zing.

The Hawaiian Attorney

The Hawaiian Attorney pointed out on my spaceface page her spelling of "Constitionality." Glad I didn't have to be that guy, but now that it's out there, this is what Karl Rove was talking about when he said he didn't want just anyone using his #tcot (top conservatives on twitter) hashtag.
